My daughter joined SoR about two years ago. The entire staff at SoR White Plains does so much for her. Beyond teaching her an instrument and how to work within a group/band setting, they are helping her along her life long journey of processing her experiences. They give her a safe place, and tools to unlock the emotions she wants express through music. I cannot thank the SoR White Plains team enough.
Everyone At SOR is very professional and the talent you draw to your faculty is impressive. As a fellow Berklee grad and musician/instructor/author, I am very happy our daughter is with Kris. He is clearly a solid musician and is very, very good with her, especially boosting her confidence. The lessons are productive, which is evident in her playing. We thank him for sharing his talent and for his patience. Joe is also immensely talented and wonderful with the kids, and we thank him too. In fact, it is clear you are all very patient and positive with each student. We are so happy with how the program is run, that you guys just get them playing and get them on stage within 3 months. Our daughter has gone from strumming chords to playing leads all in one year. And although she hasn’t yet jumped at the opportunity, we really like that you encourage them to try everything. Vox, other instruments…. the fact that you embrace that kind of well roundedness from the beginning is huge. You guys are a great group. It is evident how much you communicate with and like each other. Also, your communication with us (parents) is top notch. Very little can go wrong if we just read our emails 🙂 The best part?? The kids LOVE it there. And the best part for us?? The shows!! Best days of the year. No joke. Thank you for everything.
I will never find the words strong enough to describe what it was like witnessing my son own the stage, singing and playing the guitar, so fearlessly, and most importantly so happily with his band. I am forever grateful for this experience he has been afforded, because the gains go so far beyond the music. Music has been a savior, and the School of Rock gave him a home in which he could grow. My son is his best self when he’s in the music, playing, singing, listening, watching…I am your biggest fan mom, and thank you for giving my boy a platform to grow. The confidence and happiness my son has gained from this experience is so special. I look forward to what the future holds, and know this is just the beginning of something very special. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The school of Rock has been the greatest experience for our young musician! The teachers are experienced professionals that provide a fun, welcoming and educational learning environment. Aside from learning an instrument, our child was able to join a band and play on stage. This gave her purpose and overall a positive move into the world of music.
My daughter loves the School of Rock in Beacon NY. She is a drummer and not only do they teach technique but they also do it through the rock songs they perform. Cant think of a better place to introduce kids to music!
Signed my son up at School of Rock. Thanks to Rob and his team of excellent instructors they brought the best out of my son. Rob runs a tight ship at the School of Rock in Beacon and he keeps the place clean, safe and watching all of the kids rehearse from the street side is awesome. Seeing my son play live at The Chance was worth every penny. My son connected with so many friends and I highly recommend School or Rock!

We recently joined the School of Rock for our 6-year old. The facility is close to our home so we don’t have to travel out 25-30 minutes for music lessons which was a big plus for us! The studio is also secured and locked. Teachers are background checked so we feel comfortable sending our little girl there while stepping away to run some errands. She is taking the Rookies class and experimenting with various instruments with Ms. Chloe. She is also participating in private lessons with Mr. Nate (drums) and Ms. Lexi (Keyboard). She absolutely loves it! The owners, David and John are very helpful and willing to work with us around our specific requests. Everyone there truly wants the students to excel and create a true love for music! We are already noticing positive changes in our daughter. Her commitment/dedication to practice at home and the fact that being a part of School of Rock is teaching her discipline which will help her throughout her life. We could not be happier!
Great place to watch your kids dreams come true if they love music and playing instruments!!! The lessons really jump start their learning and Rock 101 let’s them play in a band with others!! My daughter loves it !!!
Our son has been with them for two months and he loves it. The instructors have been wonderful with our son. We can’t believe how well he’s doing! Definitely recommend
I really enjoyed my vocal lesson here! The teachers are absolutely amazing, patient, smart, they know what they’re doing! 🙂 The only downfall is that lessons for me personally are out of my budget range but if you are looking for teachers then this is a great place to start!

My 9 year old daughter has been in the school of Rock for about 2+ years. She had been taking 1-on-1 classes elsewhere. She had learned to play a couple basic songs. When I read about School of Rock I decided to give it a try. I was skeptical at first. Instead of learning to play songs as she had been doing before, she was practicing chords, and parts of songs, scales and so on. Then she performed at Nyack Farmers Market. She played guitar one song, bass one song, and sang one song. For me it was like being back stage for a U2 concert. Nothing can describe seeing your kid perform in a band. That was after less than a year with School of Rock. A year later, I get it. Now she is truly a musician. Not someone who can play a song or two, but a musician. One of those mysterious people who just understands music. She is rehearsing for a concert at the Pearl River Brew House. More complicated parts, more singing. Yes I am excited about that, and my wife and I are amazed at the sounds she can coax out of her guitar. But a few days ago I bought my 4 year old son a drum set. This is something my wife and I wouldn’t have considered before SOC. We don’t have a great place to put a drum set, and he is only 4. But now it is a different equation. I bought a guitar for Taylor when she was 5 and LOOK AT HER NOW. So, after Nathan bangs on his drums, Taylor sat down. She has never touched a drumstick. She starts playing recognizable beats. Just from observing the drummers at SOC – and from the understanding of music that has evidently become ingrained in her. There are the other ineffable benefits as well, such as confidence and work ethic – I no longer have to force her to practice, because as a part of a band, she WANTS to be good. And she has finally grasped the concept that she actually can get good at anything she sets her mind to, as long as she works hard at it. Yep, worth every penny. As a final note, from what I have seen, Shuman and his staff are amazing with the kids.
Our daughter has been attending School of Rock for over a year. Out of all the after school activities she does, this is by far her favorite. The instructors are welcoming, friendly, and make the entire learning experience fun.
My son is 11 years old, and had been taking private guitar lessons for 5 years. He had reached a point where he wanted to enhance his passion for playing. School of Rock(SOR)in Orangeburg gave him that opportunity. My son loves the rock group environment, as well as his private lessons with his teacher Alex Prol. Alex is very enthusiastic, motivational and has the expertise to correct and enhance guitar playing. The owner of the SOR, Don, is very communicative and very involved with his staff and students. When my son picks up his guitar and starts playing, I feel like I’m listening to a young professional. I look forward to watching my son play with his SOR band in a few months, and I thank all of the talented instructors for making this possible.

I like how the instructors connect with the students. I also like how the students are encouraged to try different things and putting them out of their comfort zone.
Overall an outstanding show. The only suggestion I have for next time is to have a set-list for parents, that includes which kids are playing which songs, so we know when our kids will be on stage. That way we can make room for other parents when our kids are not performing. Otherwise a really great afternoon! Thank you.

Great Teachers and staff! Fun opportunity for kids to learn and appreciate music together. Performances are standout and the opportunity to learn and play with famous artists is invaluable for the kids in and around Doylestown. Highly recommend!
School of Rock teaches teamwork. For kids who do not participate in other group activities, such as team sports, the lessons in cooperation to create harmony are very valuable. I like that students are not grouped by musical ability or age or social cliques. The diverse mix each season allows the advanced students to take on a larger role and allows the novice musicians to learn and be inspired by others. This approach contrasts with most sports teams, where students are tracked by ability and can lose interest when they feel marginalized. The novice musicians are taught to take pride in their performance. In 8th grade my daughter lost her confidence. She apologized constantly, dropped out of group activities and withdrew from her peers. But somehow School of Rock managed to give her the confidence to perform on stage even though she was a beginner. Even as she struggled to remain in school, she insisted on continuing with School of Rock because she didn’t want to let down her band. Her show performance was her proudest moment. She has now participated in 5 shows. Each show remains a thrilling experience, and a real bright event of her year.
My kids love School of Rock. The teachers are awesome and the environment is super chill. Very rock and roll. My 5 year old has drum lessons with Tony and he’s a fantastic teacher. I’ve never seen my son so focused! I’ve definitely seen that focus and dedication carry over to other aspects in his life. The Rookies program is super fun and they learn a lot. I heard the adult programs are kick ass!

I visited and took a free class. The director Marcel is an incredible teacher. Unfortunately my job schedule could not fit to take classes on the same day which they require for the monthly plan. A little miscommunication but the owner and manager Jasmin resolved all my concerns. I hope to join in the future they are super nice and professional here. Destiny. 🙂
The staff and everyone is super kind and welcoming. I am taking class and the band ROCK!!!!! Bring your kids here!!! You won’t regret it I PROMISE YOU THAT.
Amazing program. My daughter loves everything The school of rock has to offer. From her one on one lessons and her group practice she is always excited and ready to go. The staff is warm, welcoming and always ready at her schedule time. My daughter looks forward to seeing them. I recommend the school of rock to everyone that is looking for a great music program for their kids. To be able to offer some history and old school rock and roll music (some stuff we haven’t listen to before) is new and exciting for her and myself.
My son a guitar player. My daughter an aspiring singer and great dancer. We signed up a few months ago and so far they are having a great time and learning.
The Owner is about as good as it gets. Knows my kids by name and never misses an opportunity to encourage them. She is the same for all the children at the School. Don’t know how she remembers everybody.
Staff follows the owners lead.

My son has been at SOR for the last 5 years and can now confidently play 3 instruments and is a musician for life. The staff is so welcoming and positive, they help the students reach for goals and they are a lot of fun to learn from. This school has played a major role in our lives and in my son’s happiness and self esteem.
This place is awesome! Prices are fair and some of the best I’ve seen, and the people there are very friendly!
The Rock Underground Music School of Greenwood Lake
Address: 729 Jersey Ave, Greenwood Lake, NY 10925 , Urek’i , Guam , United States
I was so excited when the Rock Underground opened in my village [Greenwood Lake]. The Rock Underground has helped my son and daughter [7 and 8 years] to be young musicians who show their Joy while playing piano and singing [and sometimes playing drums].
One of the reasons is, my kids chose their own pieces/songs they want to learn. For me this is important, as from my own experience when I was a kid, some music teachers ask the students to learn the song from a specific book, not flexible and inpatient, this will make kids frustrated and felt like a “chore”.
In the Rock Underground, Ms. Anne Clarke [my kids’ piano & vocal teacher] is very patient, flexible, and teaching them based on their kids’ phase and ability [for example my daughter is more ear training than reading the notes] and keep them interested in learning the piano and vocal.
They feel joyful and proud when mastery a song [and that’s what we want!]
My daughter [8 years,] who started in The Rock Underground since she was 5 years old, has become an entertainer, she can play piano accompany herself singing [in a Broadway style too!].
And my son [7 years], who started last year – has shown his progress too. He can read the music notes, play chords and enjoy performing. Now when he listens to a song that he likes, he can’t wait to learn that song.
This school also has great programs; such ask Workshops [where my daughter first learned about the commercial acting and singing], and of course, Virtual Open Mic, where my kids are loving it to perform “live” [hence motivates them to practice their songs and channel their creativity outlet].
I would like to thank you to all the teachers, especially to Anne Clark, Matt Barile and Kevin Milnes.
Warmest, The Cliffords [Sky and Max]

Was really good instructor was patient and no pressure at all will go back.
This place is great! My daughter took an intro lesson to see what she thought. Being a teen she was nervous at first and hesitant to go. Came out of the building happy and excited. She loves her instructor and what’s she is learning. She would go every day if possible. They are professional, warm, fun, and friendly. My child loves this place!
They have a cool program where you can do lessons on your instrument or voice. And then, if you choose to you can join a band also which meets there weekly. You get to decide what level you sign up for. It’s been a huge hit with my kiddo! Wish I had signed my older child up years ago.
They offer a really great program and we are so happy a friend turned us on to it!
No one asked for this review- we are just that happy about it.
Just started and i already love it!
So I took my son for a trial run with a group of kids at this school last week on a Monday at the Madison Rd location, which he was so excited about, so he went in with (i forget her name..jenny?) and he was just excited about all the instruments, it was only him and another boy. I guess my son was too much for her because she said that he was not really focused on just one instrument and kind of all over the place and recommend Music Therapy because she is a music therapist and that an hour was too much for him, ( I was kind of shock and a little hurt that I didn’t even ask her any other questions, but said ok and left) but she didn’t recommend her services for a personal session or anything, so my husband called the next day and asked about the lady (the music therapist) that did the trial run with Aaron if she can call him back and recommend her services or if she has a referral. its been a little over a week and she has not returned his call. I also did tell them in the beginning he has a vision impairment) I just wish someone would of reached out and recommended something because my son loves music and he is not a bad kid.

Fantastic, talented staff. They are all friendly and my visually impaired daughter is having a blast learning to play songs with other kids in a “band” environment. I didnt think they would be able to work with her because she can’t read music but they are, and she fits right in. Thank you, school of rock for teaching her so much and making her feel welcome.
School of rock is the place to be if you have a child who is even remotely interested in playing music. The expert musical tutelage along with interpersonal relationship building skills is a beautiful thing to behold
Loved their summer camp for my daughter! Teachers are kind and knowledgeable and the instruments are up to date.
My son has been coming to School of Rock (SOR) since May 2021, for 2 yrs. He has had great instructors & directors, & also not so great make-up instructor (that made him cry). The 1st year, he advanced & grew, after that, he started to plateau due to repetition & dullness of the program. His instructor has been great & tried his best to squeeze songs that my kid actually wants to learn, but with band songs that he has to learn it is difficult to learn songs that he is interested in. Aside from this, my issue is with their policies. You have to give them a 24-hour notice if your kid gets sick, or they can’t give you a make-up lesson. However, the school has canceled lessons with a one hour notice. Unfortunately, the school does not open until 2 pm & you’re unable to notify them sooner if your kid wakes up sick that day.
* For reference, we paid $355 a month for a once a week lesson & band. Their policy includes a 24-hour notice if your kid gets sick & a 30-day notice if you want to cancel your membership.
*My kid will miss his instructor the most, but we will look elsewhere for better growth & a more understanding sick policy.
***to the owner***
I did text at 9 am, letting SOR know of my kid being sick. When I called at 4 pm to confirm they had canceled, they told me it had not been canceled yet. I’ve never had an issue in the 2 yrs. Also, it is not just the policies. To be honest, kids want newer fun songs. They keep playing 1980s songs that they’re just not into. Also, in the 2 years, a few kids have enrolled SOR do to our referral, but was bummed that we couldn’t even get one make-up day for being sick. Feel free to call me if you want to discuss this further. Once again, the instructors & directors have always been awesome.
I like it but they don’t let you watch the class…and it concerns me as a grandmother of a 5 year old ..they say it’s a security issue but can’t explain why we can view on tge TV in the waiting room
Great camaraderie with fellow band mates in adult band and learning how to practice to perform is a lot of fun. The rewards of lots of practice come through at the end of season shows.
people were cool and it was a good premise of the place, but as a guitar player i was not taught anything valuable and im not sure if it was my instructor or not but it was honestly just a waste of both time and money.
The class is only 30 minutes long, and the kids are on time but they can’t get to class right away and they always wait outside, but the class is over on time!
The problem isn’t that 30 minutes of study isn’t enough, it’s that the class should be 30 minutes long

My 8y/o has been taking lessons with Linda for a little over 2 months and I can honestly say it has been absolutely amazing! Linda is kind, understanding and very very supportive. She works perfectly with my high energy girl.
My 9 year old went in for her first time and was very comfortable. Ms Kathleen handled her with care and patience. She was able to build my daughters confidence from day 1 and create tangible goals for her. A fire and passion was lit to play the violin and I am so excited for her. Can’t wait to see how far she goes.
Nice school. Also, the owner has a great reputation among the local gigging guitar players.

Our kids had a blast at School of Rock camp with Mark, Celine, and Hannah. I cannot recommend this method and team enough! our kids had no real music experience and came out of the camp excited to learn more and hone their new skills as music lovers. Thank you!
My son loves the format, can’t recommend this method enough, he’s very engaged and enthusiastic about going to lessons! The owner Mark and his employees are very nice and accommodating to my son and I. We highly recommend School of Rock Burlington!

Great place to learn music, your instrument of choice and the band bonding experience.
You will appreciate the music you love more than you ever expected.
Absolutely love school of Rock. We tried guitar lessons from other music stores and my son just didn’t stick with it. He loves school of rock. They have a completely different approach. Highly recommend!
Eric is an outstanding Director!
Tina is superb Office Manager!
The instructors are amazing and highly knowledgeable!!!!
Disappointing. I have two kids there. They decided to switch my kids lesson whither I liked it or not, because her teacher was needed elsewhere. They were having her teacher teach a group class. So they inconvenienced us to make more money whither we liked it or not.
My other child is in group kids class, it doesn’t seem like he’s learning anything. He spent one day drawing a picture of drums and played no music. It’s more like music themed daycare than music lessons. Classes start late every week.
I was using SoR in Elmhurst. They rarely had the same teacher from week to week, at least there each kid got to play their own instruments for the class. My scheduled changed and they don’t have Sat classes. Usually with the franchisee model things are held together a lot better.
It’s too bad because I like the model where kids play together.
Hofstra Summer Camps

Best summer camp on Long Island. Really enjoyed the feedback and my child gave me each day. I will definitely be sending her every year back to camp. My favorite thing about this camp is that all the head directors are outside greeting the children who are coming in. I highly recommend you send your child here if you are wanting a great experience.
I love that my campers go to experience all the facilities at Hofstra. Every two weeks they specialized in a different program! My older camper loved the sports camps as well. Lunch being included was a huge help for us!!
Hofstra University’s summer camp was an absolute game-changer for our child, and I can’t help but gush about the Games Builders Academy! We couldn’t be happier with the entire experience.
Our journey with Hofstra University’s summer camp started with a seamless enrollment process. The staff’s support and flexibility in making it happen put us at ease right from the beginning. We knew we were making the right choice for our child’s summer adventure.
The Games Builders Academy was, hands down, the highlight of our child’s summer. As a parent, it was refreshing to see my child so enthusiastic about learning game development. The instructors were not only highly skilled but also deeply passionate about igniting creativity in their students. Our child honed game design and coding skills, creating games we’re genuinely impressed with.
Beyond the Games Builders Academy, the camp offered a diverse range of activities that allowed our child to explore various interests. From sports to arts to academics, it was a comprehensive summer experience that left our child excited every day.
The camp counselors were friendly and attentive, and they provided a sense of security. Knowing that our child was in good hands allowed us to relax and enjoy our summer as well. The well-structured schedule made for smooth transitions between activities, and we appreciated the organization throughout the camp.
The open communication channels with the camp director and staff ensured that we were always informed about our child’s progress and any updates. It truly felt like a partnership with the camp.
Thanks to the Games Builders Academy and Hofstra University’s summer camp, our child had a summer filled with learning, friendships, and countless memories. I wholeheartedly recommend this camp to any parent, especially if your child has a passion for game development. It’s a top-notch experience that we’ll cherish forever.
Why not
My kids just completed camp at Hofstra this summer and we were really disappointed. The academic classes by the Learning institute were great but the recreation portion of the camp was horrible. There was little to no instructional swim even though it is advertised and by the time the kids changed and checked in, there wasn’t much time in the pool. Although Hofstra has amazing facilities, kids had to change in dirty trailers that had no electricity. The photo I attached is the bottom of my kid’s flip-flops that looked liked that everyday because the trailer was filthy. The recreation options were either basketball, dodgeball, kickball or soccer…all outside in the heat. Lunch was outside in the heat and not in the nice cafeteria. Masks were not enforced so why ask about vaccinations in the application? There was two themed days for the month of July and there was Karaoke one time. For the overpriced tuition, there should have been more activities. Instead, the counselors were yelling at the kids all the time and even said in front of my kid that it feels like a daycare and not a camp. Perhaps if they planned their schedule better and used Hofstra’s gym and building, the kids wouldn’t be bored and act out. My kids told me that everyone brought devices to camp because they were bored. Hofstra Summer camp should look at how Queens College runs their camp because they are 100% better and half the money.
The amount of bullying that happens at this camp, especially on the bus, is appalling. Kids have been badly bullied and beaten up to the point of blood, broken bones and concussions. Seriously shocked to see all this happening at this reputable camp and it’s even more shocking to see the administration do absolutely NOTHING notable about it. Their poor excuse for an “investigation” into such incidents, only to allow these bullies right back onto the bus, and back into the camp is unreal and unacceptable…especially when there are witnesses, videos etc. Parents, please think twice about sending your kids to this camp! …P.S. it’s absolutely telling when one reads the same generic response from Hofstra to every single review how much they don’t care!
Not a good summer for Hofstra Camp in 2022. Transportation was unacceptable. The descriptions for specialty camps need to be amended. Coastal Explorations is a nice program, too bad it must be done thru Hofstra. Large Animal studies was a joke. My 13 year old came home with projects fit for a preschooler. Never again.
