My boys and I love School of Rock Canton — we have a 9 year old in the Rock 101 for keyboard, a 5 year old in the Rookies group (looks like he’s gonna be a drummer) and I play bass with the adult group. From top to bottom: management, staff, instructors, and students are all amazing — felt like a family really quickly!
So excited SoR came to Canton! Love the vibe of the place and how passionate the staff is!
My daughter has been a student with School of Rock, Canton since it opened in 10/2019. She loves the private lessons and group band practices. The best time of all is performing gigs out with the band. She has grown as a musician, singer and performer in a very short time. As a mom, I really appreciate the good people who teach and run the business at School of Rock Canton.
They were super kind and accommodating but my child seemed to plateau in the rookies class. I fished for information on moving him forward and never got any real answers as to why he wasn’t ready for one on one lessons with one instrument as the focus.
They also restaffed the front desk and the new person doesn’t really know what they are doing. They also double charged me and more or less called me a liar when I informed them of it. I had to provide bank statements showing the double charge because they didn’t believe me. It was really bad customer service. Never got an apology for the double charge.
Between the lack of information and progress and the double charge I ended up ending our contract with them. Which was really sad because like I said they were super nice. Only reason they didn’t get 1 star was for John and Lorelei.

Excellent communication from administration as well as awesome teachers.
Our two oldest kids started taking piano lessons about a year ago and we’ve just loved it! One of our younger kids did a camp and he loved that too. Ms. Mackenna is so great with the kids and accommodating! We love red piano music studio!
I’ve been taking violin lessons here for almost a year now and my skills have significantly improved. I certainly recommend this place for new learners to discover a great experience in the music industry.

I love music. I love concerts. I always imagined myself as a musician, but failed at piano and guitar previously. At School of Rock, their approach worked!
In three months, i went from never having played the drums … to I can play solid basic beats over the whole kit l. Our beginner band even performed a public mini-gig with an audience at a local bistro. A fantastic experience.
Teachers so talented and patient with me. Great equipment to practice on too. Everyone is chill and really supportive. Weekly private lessons and a separate group/band session with other players learning instruments too…awesome and the key to getting better.
Shout outs to my teachers Mandy, Matt and Jordan and owners Jon and Sarah. They are the best.
My nephew Cameron does guitar lessons with Tommy. He really loves it. Tommy does a great job. Really happy we chose here and got Tommy.
My 13 year old daughter loves it here! She is guitarist and has been playing/taking lessons for 9 years.
When the studio opened, we thought it’d be a great place for her to grow her knowledge of music. She did a songwriting summer camp and really loved it. Since then, her interest in music has expanded exponentially. She takes guitar and drum lessons here, and also takes performance band (which is seriously the coolest concept ever).
I attribute her passion to the warm, welcoming, and safe environment the owners and teachers have cultivated here. The teachers provide nearly instant feedback when a lesson is finished. The end of the term performances are so fun – it is so amazing to watch the kids learn how to perform fun songs for an audience!
If your kiddo is interested in music, this is the place to be!

My daughter is taking voice lessons through the GPMA with De’Sean. I have absolutely nothing but wonderful things to say about him and the entire staff. After my daughter leaves her lesson she is enthusiastic to practice and improve but more importantly her confidence in herself and her progress is bolstered which is no doubt due to the superior teaching style of her instructor. I have seen first hand the other instructors styles and lessons as well and can with confidence say they are all true professionals with a passion for teaching and the ability to connect with students.
Attending Music Together with my son has been such an amazing experience, and continues to be something we look forward to each semester.
We started attending class when he was 8 months old and within weeks his love for music and dance was abundantly clear. I have no doubt in my mind that these classes are cultivating a real passion for music and rhythm in him that may not have developed quite the way it is without Music Together.
It has created so many lasting memories for our family, both in class and out, as it has encouraged us to incorporate singing, dancing, playing instruments and general fun into our daily lives with music. I can’t recommend this program enough!
Excellent staff. Easy to make appointment for sessions. Clean & warm environment.
My kids have been taking music lessons for few years now at Grosse Pointe Music Academy. Since then my wife and I have noticed improvements with their musical performance and self confidence. Thanks and Great job!
I attempted to take singing lessons here. Unfortunately, on the day my lesson was scheduled, there was a power outage, so it was postpones. Now obviously this was out of their control, but they told me that they would call to reschedule and never did. We attempted to contact them numerous times about it, and they never got back to us.
The lessons could be the best in the city, but if they’re this difficult to work with…

This is my 3rd year going to camp, and I am so happy and grateful! My counselors are always so nice and reliable. Camp Tamarack is the best camp ever!
GOATed camp. Best thing ever created.
Amazing camp! My four kids have been going since elementary school. The experiences at Tamarack have changed their lives in such a good way. I could write a book! Send your kids and start them young. They will make lifelong friends!
This was my first year at tamarack i was in fishman and it was ok. Fish man lived in sherouth villiage because fishman village was quarantine cabins and they sucked. They looked like jail. But sherouth village was amazing. I got sick tho but I got better. Lee trepeck the chief executive officer was always so energetic I loved it! We had candy day on wensdays and Sunday’s and it was so fun! I definitely recommend coming!
My son’s counselor got almost the entire pod sick! I sent my child to a 10 day program thinking he would be safe, just to have the camp call me on day 4 to pick my son up, because he’s running a fever of a 102. All the children were required to quarantine and undergo a Covid test.
I was also expecting that the counselors would be honest about their health screen. My child told me that the first counselor Austin was coughing and sneezing since the first day that they all arrived at camp!!! It is NOT okay to let contagious staff pass the flu or a bad cold to the campers!!!
Then the second counselor got sick as well and then the children began to get sick one by one. My child said their entire village is like a mini-Pandemic! I am really upset and disappointed especially after hearing that both counselors were not sent home and are still there working. Yes. Both of them are still working.
Also if you’re sending your kids to a 10 day program, please know that your kid will not have access to all of the fun activities that the 24 day program does, like swimming in the lake every day ect…
I’m very disappointed at the lack of leadership and accountability! Just Unacceptable!
When I was a Councillor. I was fired for holding back a kid from punching another one. The director at the time sent me in a rude way with no pay. You should think twice if you want to send your kid to a camp that is more concerned with getting sued than the actual safety of your children.
Place is like list city of Atlantis ,impossible to find..
Great atmosphere, the staff really seem to care about music and their students. The Little Wings program is awesome and run by very cool teachers.
School of Rock GR has been fantastic for our preschooler. He especially enjoys his instructor always looks forward to attending weekly classes. Mr. Connor does a brilliant job engaging and (re)directing a room full of energetic kids. He and all of staff are so kind, enthusiastic, and clearly passionate about music which is reflected in the way they interact with the students. We really appreciated the opportunity to do a trial lesson before starting classes, it was a great chance to check out the curriculum; the levels and structure of which are really thoughtfully tailored to age and skill level. Certainly for our kiddo it is both challenging and fun and we’ve already seen the impacts of what he’s been picking up in class. We look forward to continuing here as he progresses.
Our daughter was in the Little Wings class and is now in the Rookies class and she loves it here! It amazes me, the things she comes home knowing about rhythm, instruments, and even classic rock artists. We also just held her 6th birthday party there, and WOW, it was incredible. The instructors were very organized (more than my husband and I), and the activities were a hit. They learned a Moana (the bday girls’ party theme) song on Ukeleles, decorated guitars, and played bingo. The best part was that we (the parents) were able to sit back and let the kids enjoy the party rather than stressing out. The communication has been excellent as well for both the classes as well as the party. I can’t say enough great things.

Great extracurricular opportunities. Top notch music and science program, above average athletics
pooooop
Best school and education . Not everything’s perfect , but ultimately they do their best to prepare you for college and that’s all that matters.
alright yeah sure great school and all whatever prepares you for college and stuff all fun. TOO COLD!!!!!! i genuinely cannot comprehend Why On Earth you would make 2000+ students suffer in the freezing tundra of a building that is troy high for nine consecutive months. we’re really just gonna let the AC be on during the 10 degree winter? really? truly? who’s idea was that and why. honest to god the one complaint that every single person has about this school is that it’s always -30 degrees no matter the weather and we all just have to die for the cause of education. absolutely lovely thank you for coming
Good except for Mrs. Grove. She is not good. 2 stars off.
You’ll have your share of good and bad teachers, but overall Troy High is a great school to attend. Allows all students to progress at their individual paces.
Twas a fun four years for me.
Might be going here for high school
Dixboro Music Academy
Address: 5155 Plymouth Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 , Troy , Michigan , United States
Good experience at Dixboro music. Super convenient to schedule different options for music lessons for my daughter. Easy to reschedule. Owner is very accommodating, friendly, and organized.
My children and I had with a wonderful experience at Dixboro Music Academy!
Our teachers, David, Silver, Charlie and Tyler were highly knowledgeable and incredibly inspiring. Their passion for music shone through in every session, created an environment where learning was a joyous experience. Their dedication to their craft and their ability to convey complex concepts in a simple and enjoyable manner truly defines their exceptional teaching skills. Their guidance and expertise not only helped us improve our technical skills but also deepened our appreciation for various musical styles and genres and of course, our love for music. We were encouraged to explore our creativity while fostering a sense of confidence and personal growth within us. We have so much appreciation for the whole team for their outstanding commitment to providing top-notch education and music instruction. Our time with Dixboro has been invaluable, and I WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend their services to anyone seeking a positive and enriching musical experience.
Only stopped in for a drink but the place is beautiful and this paloma was amazing. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Hope to go back and try dinner soon!
Canton Music Academy
Address: 5880 N Canton Center Rd #425, Canton, MI 48187 , Troy , Michigan , United States
My grandchildren are attending the Music Together program and it is a fun and carefree approach to introducing music to little ones. They sing, dance and play to a variety of songs that encourage a love for music in and out of the studio.
I’m just starting my 3rd session of Music Together at the Grosse Pointe Music Academy in Canton. We have thoroughly enjoyed our experiences! My boys are very shy, so getting them around other kids and involved has taken a lot of creativity. The music together classes are wonderful – playful, energizing – the kids are really able to participate as much or as little as they want. My kids love the listen to the music at home and in the car, and often sing and dance along with the songs. Our teacher is very engaging! For anyone with toddlers or preschoolers, I HIGHLY recommend this program.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
It was nice the guitar teacher was knowledgeable and kind. Check it out if kids want music lessions
The secretary it’s not friendly at all.
Ann Arbor Saline Music Center
Address: 135 E Bennett St, Saline, MI 48176 , Troy , Michigan , United States
My daughter takes both voice and guitar lessons at the Ann Arbor Music Center. The staff and instructors are great. The owners are very friendly too and make you feel a part of their musical family.
This place is special. My son and I learned how to play here, he at the age of 11 and I at the age of 49! They have the best teachers in the world. This is also a really nurturing place for kids. They get them into rock groups ASAP and organise gigs at local coffee shops. The kids learn fast and play really well because they’re highly motivated by their peers and by the great music. My son got so much out of this when he was starting out. It really gave him a lot of confidence as he developed his musical chops. He has his own students in Detroit now. I started in the Adult Blues program, then my interest shifted to jazz. At this time the Adult Jazz Class has disbanded, so I play in several outside jazz ensemble classes but still take private lessons at the Center with Carl who who I continue to learn so much from. They also have a guitar building shop in the basement, camps for kids in the summer, and I can leave my guitar here overnight when it needs a setup. Worth every penny.
There are no finer music instructors in the county; in the region; in the state; in the USA; IN THE WORLD. The Ann Arbor Saline Music Center teaches kids and adults the technique and appreciation of music that sustains and builds the soul. The teachers are heartful and brilliant musicians, eager to thoughfully develop the music interests that are within you, with skills built from real-life experience and years of dedication to the magic of music.
These are the same people who really screwed us over in Ann Arbor. We started with them in May. Then 4 months later we show up for a lesson and the teacher says the whole school is moving to Saline at the end of next month and today is my last day. We knew that they were opening a school in Saline, but they never told us anything about moving the entire school. We enrolled two kids at this school! If we had known they were planning on moving, then we never would have started with them in the first place – but of course, they wanted our money …

It’s a nice layout but the seats are a little squished close and not super comfortable.
Because I’ve only seen one show there it’s not really fair to review the performances yet.
School of Rock
Address: 11171 Perry Hwy, Wexford, PA 15090 , Troy , Michigan , United States
Neat place, friendly staff. I wish SOR was around when I was a kid.
School of Rock has been successful during this pandemic by making the safety of all individuals involved their top priority; from the students, teachers, and staff members. Their willingness to offer new opportunities for students while allowing for flexibility and yet still providing an outstanding experience is incomparable.
My kid attends and has enjoyed it so far. We had a few issues with some last minute cancellations from the instructor, but they seem to have worked hard to resolve the issues 🙂
Josh is teaching my 7 year old to sing and Josh jas a lot of patience.
I’ve been looking for about 2 months every day to find myself an interlocutor. I understand that the hardest thing in Pittsburgh is getting your kid to take piano lessons. There is no need for new students in any music school anyway. Nobody answered that phone. Last time a girl opened, I left my e-mail address for registration. It will be about a week, I’m still waiting for your email. there is no hurry, they send an email next year.
Decided to try for My son who has passion for music and has autism. If you know someone with autism, you know firsts don’t always go well. In this case he was having an issue focusing during the first 30 minute drum lesson. The young adult male came out 15 Minutes into my sons lesson and said it wasn’t going to work out because your son just wasn’t focusing or listening. No kidding! Gotta give him a chance. Way to go! I don’t recommend.

Was really good instructor was patient and no pressure at all will go back.
This place is great! My daughter took an intro lesson to see what she thought. Being a teen she was nervous at first and hesitant to go. Came out of the building happy and excited. She loves her instructor and what’s she is learning. She would go every day if possible. They are professional, warm, fun, and friendly. My child loves this place!
They have a cool program where you can do lessons on your instrument or voice. And then, if you choose to you can join a band also which meets there weekly. You get to decide what level you sign up for. It’s been a huge hit with my kiddo! Wish I had signed my older child up years ago.
They offer a really great program and we are so happy a friend turned us on to it!
No one asked for this review- we are just that happy about it.
So I took my son for a trial run with a group of kids at this school last week on a Monday at the Madison Rd location, which he was so excited about, so he went in with (i forget her name..jenny?) and he was just excited about all the instruments, it was only him and another boy. I guess my son was too much for her because she said that he was not really focused on just one instrument and kind of all over the place and recommend Music Therapy because she is a music therapist and that an hour was too much for him, ( I was kind of shock and a little hurt that I didn’t even ask her any other questions, but said ok and left) but she didn’t recommend her services for a personal session or anything, so my husband called the next day and asked about the lady (the music therapist) that did the trial run with Aaron if she can call him back and recommend her services or if she has a referral. its been a little over a week and she has not returned his call. I also did tell them in the beginning he has a vision impairment) I just wish someone would of reached out and recommended something because my son loves music and he is not a bad kid.
Ford Theater for the Performing Arts at Detroit School of Arts High School
Address: 123 Selden St, Detroit, MI 48201 , Troy , Michigan , United States
Great school! I love this school it’s the best school of them all. My school has great teachers, the best students, and it’s a beautiful school building. We have so much to offer for incoming students and freshmen.
DSA is a great arts institution and learning facility. More people should be made aware of its influence within the Detroit educational scene.
I go to the school now. Its amazing. The school is honestly spectacular. I couldn’t imagine going to another high school. (great food also)
Loved the school environment.
Awesomeness
Too many damn stairs!
WARNING! Beware of this school! This school is one of the worse High Schools in the Detroit area. Children at this school full on bully students and send a gang of students to one another up. Very unsafe environment. Second their assistant principle is a little racist. I highly reccommend sending your child to a better school especially if they are stating as a Freshmen. This school is also terrible with handling bully issues and students also sell drugs around the school. They act like its a great school when in reality its just another inner city school where children are around drugs, violence, racist assistant principle and terrible administration. The board of education doesn’t care enough to fix these issues because they are a bunch of lazy incompetent imbeciles.
This school isn’t considered a real high school to me. It’s NO sports and the education here sucks and will not prepare you for college. What I can say about it is the radio and tv program is great with cameras learning how to edit and all of that but academically and far as having a true high school experience is where it lacks.
Worst school to possibly attend in the detroit area. This school has had the worst administration of any high school for the past several years. I’d never punish my kid as much as to send them to this school. Dont believe the nice comments, this school has horrible arts programs, teachers that are disrespectful to the students, and a massive amount of bullying. Every administrator is biased so dont think the code of conduct matters in any predicament. I could keep going but I’m gonna cut it short but to sum it up this school needs to hire an entirely knew staff and I would not advise for any parent to enroll their child here.
