We joined school of rock nearly a year ago today. To say it was a life changing experience barely does it justice. Heather has created an environment that is second to none. She clearly treats her staff and instructors well and with proper respect as I’ve seen ZERO turnover in a year. That is a feat.
Watching my kids flourish in a way I never expected. My, seemingly, shy boy is turning into a man and his experience in front of the mic is part of it for certain. And my daughter has committed to drums in a way I didn’t expect. She even got behind the mic recently to sing which she used to say she was too shy to do! Performing as part of a group is irreplaceable.
The community is what makes this place work and Heather has created a space where community is first in importance. Do yourself a favor. Send your kids here for a trial lesson! Then just skip the wait (like we should have) and just do a trial lesson for yourself for the adult band you absolutely won’t regret it

Highly recommend this music program. My two kids learned a lot during their guitar and voice lessons with top-notch music instructors. They also learned how to play with other student musicians in School of Rock performance bands.
Both our 10 year old son and 8 year old daughter take lessons here. They love going. They have learned so much. The Rock 101 program is great! I definitely recommend School of Rock.
We love school of rock! My daughter has been in lessons and performance band for a couple of years now and it has been a great experience. She has really progressed with her playing in a way that keeps her interested and she has so much fun. They are extremely well organized and have navigated through covid times with skill. Best music school for young learners in the county!

My experience with School of Rock has been mostly with private lessons and briefly with Adult Rock band. I have been playing drums for 8 years. Damon has been the perfect drum coach for me at this point. We work on rudiments, on specific songs, on improvisation, showmanship, and we just have fun. He makes me wear ear protection!
The reason I rated a 4 and not a 5 is that there is an element of rigidity in how they do things. But overall, it is an awesome place. Especially if you are a parent with a musical child it is fantastic.

Beautiful new School of Rock! Of course the place is an amazing spot to learn how to be a rockstar but this location specifically is gorgeous! From the flooring to the wall art everything is perfect. Right on the beach too! Aside from the vibe of the place the teachers are of course top notch. The guy who owns this place also owns the one in scripps ranch and it’s run just as well. Love this program! Can’t say enough good things about it!
We cannot say enough about School of Rock. Everyone from the staff to the students are simply amazing! We are not residents of Del Mar but we are locals and enjoy many of the shops and restaurants in Del Mar Plaza and the surrounding area. We find ourselves in the area even more now that our son has recently joined a show group at the School of Rock Del Mar in Del Mar Plaza. This past year has been rough for everyone, especially the kids. School is at home, no travel, essentially no outlet for the kiddos. We are so thankful for School of Rock and not only the safety measures they have taken from their opening but for all they have done through the pandemic and currently do. Music has been the one thing that has been constant over this year and being able to get out and play and perform with his peers really made a difference.
Listening and watching these kids, these young adults play has also been very therapeutic for us adults as well. I know as an adult I do not have the courage to even give a speech in front of a crowd let alone what these amazing rock stars are doing. What they learn at School of Rock will help them as they grow, life lessons they will be able to take with them. I know not every song or every group is someone’s favorite but these kids are playing every song with heart and soul and we are truly amazed by their skills. The teachers and staff are amazing and always friendly, most important their students are number one. They are so supportive of all their students. School of Rock Del Mar is overall an incredible place.
I love the show programs here!
I canceled my services and they charged my account

Absolutely incredible program! Every instructor has been so impressive! Not only are they passionate about music, you can tell that they’re passionate about working with kids and keeping rock alive! Our family appreciates their dedication and their tremendous skill.
My son LOVES Jimmy and the drum kit instructions and music recommendations he receives from Jimmy. My son has not been this enthusiastic about drumming in a few years — it is wonderful to see!
I started here a couple years ago after bouncing around different music schools in the area and let me tell you, this is the best one. I take drum lessons and I just started bass lessons too and I absolutely love it here. Highly recommend!!!

The teachers have all been amazing, and both my son and I are enjoying our lessons. We look forward to coming every week. Additionally, both of us have become more outgoing and confident in our performance ability.
Our 8 and 12 y/o had a wonderful time at the San Jose location, and came home inspired and energized each night. The crew there clearly care about the kids and about running a fun music camp. My kids raved about the activities (their dye shirts were awesome!) and it was a blast watching them perform songs at the end of the week! We will definitely go back next summer.
My son went to the summer camp there and he really liked it. I saw that his face brightened up and he liked to talk about new songs and plays that he did during the class. It seems he learned a lot and had fun. I thank to teachers for introducing new genre of music to my son.

School of Rock Burbank has been a part of our family’s life for the past three years. It is an incredible way for kids to gain confidence, meet other kids who are into music, and learn one of those big life lessons that sounds like a platitude, but is really true. And that is, the harder you work, the better the results. The older kids inspire the younger ones, and these kids go from wanting to learn an instrument to playing on a big stage in front of family and friends–and they get such an amazing sense of accomplishment, they want to take on more and more. We’ve seen our son become a musician before our very eyes, and it is humbling, to be sure. The instructors are accomplished musicians themselves, and they inspire the kids in every area of their lives, not just music! And the other parents are some of the most encouraging, loving people you’ll ever meet. We couldn’t be more thrilled with SOR Burbank. It is HOME.
So happy I found a place that has amazing instructors that are super fun and know how to keep my son’s attention! He loves School of Rock!
My kid loves School of Rock. They have a unique curriculum to teach music to kids in a way more fun way than when I was a kid.

Learning music in a group setting is very important. No only are my children motivated to learn their own material, but they also learn how to collaborate with their peers. The team at SOR is great.
I think Erick Recher does an amazing job at the Palo Alto location ensuring lessons are running smoothly and that students and parents are happy. This makes all the difference on top of great lesson and performance programs. We have thoroughly enjoyed our many years at School of Rock! My son is rockin’ the drum set!
We re-started our lessons shortly after Shelter in Place in March and School of Rock has been great. The communications have been terrific, the instruction excellent, and it’s been a real gift to my daughter.
Great folks!
My child has been taking lessons for over almost 2 years now. He started with drums and electric guitar recently.
They helped him develop genuine interest in music, and so he looks fwd to practicing at home.
Love the place. Great teachers! But I am shocked by how insensitive the Eric at front desk could be. I understand that the No show policy is tough because they have to pay the teachers. Yes I get it. But the way he relays is “No matter if you die or kid dies or any one dies in the family, there is nothing we can do about it”. Shhh! Chill!!
May be don’t give him front desk duties if he can’t handle people. I feel very sorry for the owner or management of this place.
What a morbid and insensitive way to communicate.
I am disappointed with our experience at this place. Here are the reasons why:
1. The class neglects to teach fundamental music concepts such as notes and rhythm to the kids. This lack of foundation is a significant drawback.
2. Rather than gradually introducing beginners to these basics, they immediately thrust them into rehearsals with more advanced children. This approach is demotivating for newcomers who are still learning.
3. My child expressed a clear disinterest in attending these classes, which is a testament to their dissatisfaction.
4. As parents with limited musical knowledge, we attempted to supplement at home with various apps, but it became evident that children need proper instruction and practice in the basics before tackling complex songs.
We provided this feedback to the teacher on multiple occasions, but they merely suggested that we encourage our child to practice at home, without addressing the core issues.
This dissatisfaction has persisted through the third class, and when we requested a cancellation, nobody showed any interest in understanding or rectifying the situation.
If you are seeking a beginner’s music institute for your child, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere, as this place does not meet those needs.
A few days back spoke to a gentleman, may be not so much of a “Gentleman”, about the program, fees, and policies over all. It was a turn off. May be I caught him on a bad day. One star because I only spoke to him and the way he explained to made me think, I should find another place. Seems very inflexible place especially if you have young kids.

I really like the great learning environment. My son loves practicing with the band. The instructors are great. Bernard is very friendly and always professional.
My 14 yr old son has been taking drumming and electric guitar lessons at this school for a couple of years, with two different teachers. He really likes both of his teachers and he has gotten much better at playing both instruments. The owner Bernard is so nice and helpful! We highly recommend this music school:)
Very welcoming & positive atmosphere. My son loves coming here to learn drums. Teachers are great. Evan who runs the place is super friendly, considerate & helpful.

Friendly staff and wonderful experience. I highly recommend. They are very easy to work with and it’s so much fun!
Super awesome staff and both my kids really enjoyed the summer camp. They want to keep playing music which I think was our ultimate goal with sending them to the camp.
My 5 year old loves his teacher and his class!
Last week, my eight year old daughter attended the song writing camp at the School of Rock in Fairfax. We live in the Bay Area, and travelled down south for my son to attend a filmmaking camp. My daughter is a young musician, and I thought that while in LA, it would be a fun opportunity for her to attend a music camp.
While I am not sure that my daughter actually learned anything she didn’t already know prior to the camp, just being around other young musicians is I think a positive thing. Of the two music teachers, she said that Todd was a friendly teacher and very supportive. However, of the other teacher, Anthony, she said “he was kind of nice, but not really.” Her feelings were hurt when she asked him to write down the chords for one of the songs they’d started creating (so that she could practice in the hotel room) and he responded in a rude tone “do you even know how to play the guitar?” and didn’t write them down. While Chloe has been playing the piano for three years, she only 6 months ago started the guitar, and she’s still learning. Cut the kid a break.
But the thing that really upsets me about this camp is what one of the other employees did (and I am leaving the employees name out in the hope that this review will lead to self-refection and positive changes in their future). For people who are considering sending their child to one of these camps, FYI, they offer to the get the kids a lunch for $10 a day, and I suggest you always send your child with that exact amount. On the first day of camp, I sent my daughter with two $5’s for lunch, and a $20 for emergency. At lunch, she was unable to locate one of the $5’s (which she later realized had simply tightly pocketed itself within the other $5). She went to the employee as they were the person in charge of getting the lunches, and told them that she couldn’t find a $5, but that she had a $20. The employee said that was fine, and then asked my daughter if she would either like her $10 change, or would she rather have the employee keep it and apply it towards the next day’s lunch. My daughter said the employee could apply it to next day’s lunch. But, the next day when it came time for lunch, the employee approached my daughter and asked her for $10. My daughter reminded the employee that she had given her a $20 bill the day before, and that when the employee had told her she could either give her change or apply it to the following day’s lunch, that my daughter had told the employee to apply it to the following day. But, the employee’s response was that they would never do that; that if my daughter had given the employee a $20, they would just give her change, and that my daughter had to give the employee another $10 if she wanted lunch. Unfortunately, the initial $20 transaction had taken place in the small office that the employee sits in, with just the two of them present, so there was nobody to witness what the employee did. Obviously, my daughter wanted to eat, so she gave the employee another $10. This left my daughter believing that one of two things had occurred. She thought either the employee honestly didn’t remember that they’d told my daughter they’d apply to the next day the $10 dollars change owed her (which my daughter found hard to believe because in her words “there were only 8 kids and — is too young to have memory problems”) OR that the employee stole $10 from her.
This was a one week, Mon-Fri camp, and I found about the problem Wednesday morning before dropping her off. I did not feel comfortable addressing this with the employee and then leaving my daughter there. Suffice it to say, I made sure she had exact change for the remaining three lunches. On Friday, I had to send her with ten $1’s and told her to make sure the employee counted them out in front of her. I asked my daughter what she learned from the experience with the employee. She said that she learned you can never trust anybody, especially if you don’t know them. It stinks that my daughter had to learn that from an adult at a music school.

As a parent I give the SOR Program 5 Stars based on their method of putting the focus on the sum being greater than the parts. The focus isn’t so much 1-on-1 music lessons for students chosen instruments as it is for interacting in a band setting and each student finding their place within the songs, and within the band.
Amazing singing lessons for my daughter. Thank you Ross
I love the program for many reasons, starting with:
-They are professionally organized with so many songs that I personally enjoy.
-The instructors are fantastic and “real” with the kids, helping with their growth for the real world. There is no babying and enabling, it’s about fun and teaching them to follow direction without attitude. Love this!
-Joey has been my daughters instructor since the beginning of time (March will be 2 years). He is very encouraging, lifting and very real with her…priceless.
-The shows are the best! They are so well planned, and make the kids feel accomplished.
-My only complaint is the parking, lol…secret is to show up early.
Thanks guys, we appreciate you and your influence! All the best, Kimberly
It’s an ok school there can be sassy people if your going into juniors it’s worst if you are a hyper person you will most likely be liked for a little while and then when someone does a mean thing you will probably be mad but there’s the good times to

Fantastic keyboard instruction by Joe. The staff is always enthusiastic and kind, especially Katie. My 12 yr old son is loving it! Highly recommend the Wesrside schoo!!
The instructors my daughter has worked with have been infinitely patient and kind. They’re always full of encouragement while still reinforcing important character traits like commitment and teamwork. I have seen a big boost in her self-confidence and she’s proud of herself for overcoming her stage fright. As a parent, I like the way SOR communicates her progress with me. It really helps that they send out recaps after class and let me know what to help her focus on for the week. Now that she’s moved into the performance program we’re all really excited to see her with the band on stage at one of the amazing venues! It’s such a cool goal to work towards and that really inspires the kids!
Professional and fun instructors who care about music and children ♥️
Great staff great location great music
Kelly who “runs” the school is absolutely awful. She is unprofessional, combative, lacks follow-up skills, lacks customer service skills, and is incredibly rude and unable to resolve conflict. I would never send my child to a place that is run by a person like Kelly. That said, I pulled my child out of the summer camp.

School of Rock is one of the best music education programs I have ever seen. The community at this school has a passion for what they do and it really shows. Students get to come out of their shell when they play here, and build the skills and confidence to take their music out to the world. Highly recommend for anyone looking to learn an instrument.
I’m a student. I never thought I had any musical talent, but when I walk out of my lesson I feel like a musician. I’ve been going almost a year and I had enough confidence to join the church band. I’m the back up drummer and I do the less complicated songs.
They’ve restored an historic building and it’s waaay cool. The teachers are good and the cost is very reasonable.
If I can do it, anybody can. I’m a retired boomer. Rock on!!!!
Best music program around! Staff is amazing, program is unique, and my boys absolutely love it here! Check it out for yourself – they offer a first trial lesson for free.

The School of Rock Venice is a first class institution. Starting from the welcome desk to the lessons and or the rehearsals Venice school is top notch, professional and fun and educational. Reasonably priced for all it’s services Venice School of Rock is THE place to take your youngsters.
Great for kids
Great place for anyone ages 4 – 80 wanting to play music or sing!
This camp changed my life a musician and a person when I went there. I was surrounded by so many other motivated musicians my age and types of people (my kind of people) I didn’t even know existed before hand. I had directors and teachers that inspired me so much with their ability. They gave clear advice to the group and always found time to help me as an individual when I was struggling. I never grew so quickly in ability and knowledge anywhere else. I could tell hours of stories and experiences of the joy and sense of belonging this camp brought me. Just go! And be ready to play your instruments, hone your skills, and have a really awesome time.
What a GREAT Magical Place! I started there as a young flute student! 40 Years later I am STILL friends with So MANY HAYWARD La HONDA MUSIC CAMPERS!! Go CAMP!!
