Loved it. School of Rock Scripps Ranch people are very friendly and professional. It’s like a big family! The school atmosphere is amazing.
My son takes guitar lessons there. And he loves it. Its a fun and Positive experience.
The kids love the lessons and show groups here. Got them back into music after quitting the school orchestra. It’s way more engaging for them to play music that they love.

This place is so inspiring for my child. They definitely bring the vibe into music lessons and allow kids to explore. And getting them ready for stage performance!! If your child loves music and wants to learn more about getting on stage and playing an instrument this is the place to go!!!
Jared (the GM) is so accommodating and all the instructors make this such a fun experience for both my boys (keys and bass guitar). There is a reason why this School of Rock in Carmichael is the popular and (thankfully) expanding to take the entire building space.
The neon sign in the front window that says ‘OPEN & ROCKIN’ pretty much says it all.
Would give zero stars it would let me. Scheduled my 9 year old daughter’s drum lesson over phone. She was very excited! Showed up and they had not Scheduled her, drum instructor was gone for the day, and they had no idea what happened? Unbelievably unprofessional, and worst of all, I had to look at the disappointment on my daughter’s face. I thought this was going to be a positive situation for her, instead they let her down.
My disabled partner was looking for something fun to do in-between speech therapies and physical therapies. He needed something to take his mind off of things, something that may also be therapeutic. So, we decided to schedule a singing lesson at the school of rock. His speech therapist agreed, it was a great idea.
Hi appointment was scheduled for May 27 at 10:30am. They asked us to arrive at 10:15am. We planned the days schedule around the appointment. We showed up at 10:15am, as instructed. When we arrived they told my partner the vocal instructor had called in sick. They had been open since 9am yet they didn’t bother to call or email to cancel. They offered to reschedule for the following Saturday. We agreed.
Again they said to arrive at 10:15am for a 10:30 appointment on June 3rd. Again we planed our schedule around the appointment. However, around noon on the 2nd we received an email saying the appointment had been moved to 11:30am on the 3rd due to a staffing issue. We thought “Okay, well at least they contacted us in advance this time.”
We rearranged our schedule for the day. We arrived at 11:15am for an 11:30am appointment, as requested. Again they said someone didn’t show up, they didn’t have enough staff to cover the appointment.
I asked the person at the front desk why they hadn’t contacted us in advance for either cancellation. Their first response was to pass the buck and say “I don’t know I’m only here on Saturdays.” Perhaps this person isn’t payed enough to take responsibility for anything. Perhaps they aren’t payed enough to put in any amount of effort and make the situation right. I don’t know. I can only speculate. After some disingenuous apologies, an ear full of excuses, and no offer to make the situation right, we left unsatisfied.
The bottom line:
This company hasn’t any semblance of courtesy, consideration, reliability or professionalism. They wouldn’t know customer service if it bit them in their bass.

Fantastic programming and staff. Great communication with community.
My child had a great time, They have the program organized so they were playing songs on the 1st day with no prior musical training. It’s a great, and encouraging experience!
I love these guys! From the friendly greeting by Selena, to the talented and passionate staff. My son has studied with Paxton for a couple of years, and he loves him. He gets challenged every week in their one on one classes. I hear their camps are great as well. It’s lovely having a place so close with such knowledgable and loving staff.

My kids love this place! When I pick them up from band practice they’re on a high. Everyone is really kind, supportive and extremely capable.
Kids learn confidence and have fun in a healthy environment. So happy for my daughters to be learning musical knowledge that helps in so many other areas. Beat, counts, rhythms, working with a team and fixing what isn’t working. The process is amazing and I hope they never loose their love of the song.
Wonderful supportive atmosphere. Great energy! My daughter loves going to her vocal lessons with Aaron.

We joined school of rock nearly a year ago today. To say it was a life changing experience barely does it justice. Heather has created an environment that is second to none. She clearly treats her staff and instructors well and with proper respect as I’ve seen ZERO turnover in a year. That is a feat.
Watching my kids flourish in a way I never expected. My, seemingly, shy boy is turning into a man and his experience in front of the mic is part of it for certain. And my daughter has committed to drums in a way I didn’t expect. She even got behind the mic recently to sing which she used to say she was too shy to do! Performing as part of a group is irreplaceable.
The community is what makes this place work and Heather has created a space where community is first in importance. Do yourself a favor. Send your kids here for a trial lesson! Then just skip the wait (like we should have) and just do a trial lesson for yourself for the adult band you absolutely won’t regret it

My 4 year old son takes drum lessons here from the nicest most patient teacher, Jordan. Highly recommend!
The School of Rock Berkeley has taken my 10 year old drumming daughter’s skills to a level that seemed impossible a couple of months ago. Through the private lessons, she has been exposed to different genres of music and techniques that took her from playing basic rhythms to actual syncopation complete with fills and tempo changes. And now that she is playing with the performance band she gets to play alongside some uber-talented kids which has pushed her to be better. And to top it off, the school is located in a super cute neighborhood and the school itself is awesomely decorated inside and always kept clean and sanitized. The staff and teachers are all welcoming. Couldnt ask for more from the perspective of a parent hoping that their kid finds a lifelong love of music.
My son loves the little rookies classes.

Daughter doing drums – awesome teachers, fun songs and great, safe environment.
I think Erick Recher does an amazing job at the Palo Alto location ensuring lessons are running smoothly and that students and parents are happy. This makes all the difference on top of great lesson and performance programs. We have thoroughly enjoyed our many years at School of Rock! My son is rockin’ the drum set!
Great folks!
My child has been taking lessons for over almost 2 years now. He started with drums and electric guitar recently.
They helped him develop genuine interest in music, and so he looks fwd to practicing at home.
A few days back spoke to a gentleman, may be not so much of a “Gentleman”, about the program, fees, and policies over all. It was a turn off. May be I caught him on a bad day. One star because I only spoke to him and the way he explained to made me think, I should find another place. Seems very inflexible place especially if you have young kids.
Love the place. Great teachers! But I am shocked by how insensitive the Eric at front desk could be. I understand that the No show policy is tough because they have to pay the teachers. Yes I get it. But the way he relays is “No matter if you die or kid dies or any one dies in the family, there is nothing we can do about it”. Shhh! Chill!!
May be don’t give him front desk duties if he can’t handle people. I feel very sorry for the owner or management of this place.
What a morbid and insensitive way to communicate.
I am disappointed with our experience at this place. Here are the reasons why:
1. The class neglects to teach fundamental music concepts such as notes and rhythm to the kids. This lack of foundation is a significant drawback.
2. Rather than gradually introducing beginners to these basics, they immediately thrust them into rehearsals with more advanced children. This approach is demotivating for newcomers who are still learning.
3. My child expressed a clear disinterest in attending these classes, which is a testament to their dissatisfaction.
4. As parents with limited musical knowledge, we attempted to supplement at home with various apps, but it became evident that children need proper instruction and practice in the basics before tackling complex songs.
We provided this feedback to the teacher on multiple occasions, but they merely suggested that we encourage our child to practice at home, without addressing the core issues.
This dissatisfaction has persisted through the third class, and when we requested a cancellation, nobody showed any interest in understanding or rectifying the situation.
If you are seeking a beginner’s music institute for your child, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere, as this place does not meet those needs.

School of Rock: it’s NOT just for kids!
TL;DR = Adult band is so much fun! Chris Batshon is an amazing teacher and band director!
I’m an adult student and I just wanted to say that I am very happy that I chose SOR in San Mateo. I’m taking bass guitar lessons with Chris B. He’s professional, knowledgeable, patient, and (most importantly) very relatable. He’s always available to answer questions outside of lessons and he provides constructive feedback. I feel like I’ve learned a lot in a short amount of time. I’m super motivated to practice on my own at home and to take on new, more challenging songs.
I also decided to join the adult band at SoR, which is a blast! Chris B stepped up to direct the adult band, after the original director had a health issue. Chris created a fresh approach to directing the adult band. He allowed each of us to pick a few songs that we wanted to learn and perform; instead of using the old, prescribed setlist. It’s definitely much more fun and motivating to practice songs that you and your bandmates actually enjoy. Band practice is the highlight of my week!
Also, wanted to give a shoutout to all the staff and instructors there. Everyone is so helpful, friendly, and welcoming. I live in San Francisco. Surprisingly, there is no SoR in SF. Even if a SoR were to open in SF, I’d probably still commute to San Mateo just for the people who work there.
We love this place. A great place to learn and play. Excellent song choices and inclusive learning.

Best music program around! Staff is amazing, program is unique, and my boys absolutely love it here! Check it out for yourself – they offer a first trial lesson for free.
This place has to be the new gem for kids to learn music and expand their musical talents. Knowing Jason and Cecilia and their passion I’m sure this place will be a success.
School of Rock is one of the best music education programs I have ever seen. The community at this school has a passion for what they do and it really shows. Students get to come out of their shell when they play here, and build the skills and confidence to take their music out to the world. Highly recommend for anyone looking to learn an instrument.

SOR is amazing in every possible way! Everyone is so cool and professional! The best possible way to get into music and develop the skills to become serious and get into a band , or just do it for fun ! Whatever you need or want to become proficient , they have it. So very very pleased!
The teachers here are amazing!! So engaging and knowledgeable
Full disclosure: I have never taken a class here, nor have I ever interacted with an instructor. But I happened upon a public concert being given by the students of School of Rock West LA, and I was blown away by the talent and stage presence of middle school kids. Clearly, this place has developed a rigorous training program and is capable of producing impressive musicians.
Great staff great location great music
Kelly who “runs” the school is absolutely awful. She is unprofessional, combative, lacks follow-up skills, lacks customer service skills, and is incredibly rude and unable to resolve conflict. I would never send my child to a place that is run by a person like Kelly. That said, I pulled my child out of the summer camp.

Teachers and staff are patient and considerate. Plus the prices affordable
I don’t have anything to compare it to, at 57 years young and my first voice lessons, I am learning something about myself, school contracts and music as well as having fun. Read your contract!
M my y son is now 17 and started 2 years ago with formal drum sessions. The staff here was fantastic, as my son has Down Syndrome and therefor his “lessons” would look different than a typical lesson. Every instructor has been Simon tune with his ability and his preferred genre of music. His lessons are different I think in that it’s really. Jam session with instruction. He LOVES coming and literally cannot wait for the next session to play all his favorites he has practiced from the week before. Rock On!
It’s an ok school there can be sassy people if your going into juniors it’s worst if you are a hyper person you will most likely be liked for a little while and then when someone does a mean thing you will probably be mad but there’s the good times to
Discrimination from the owner of the franchise

What a great concept to have kids learn to play instruments not only with a personal instructor, but also with other kids in a group/band setting. The staff and instructors rock as hard as the kids do!!!
What is there not to like. The best method to teach music. The kids love it, have a blast and learn something they can do their entire life.
The staff are top notch and really care about the kids. Can’t say enough about my child’s 6 years there.
Best afterschool activity for kids. My daughter is always looking forward to the lessons. Teachers are super professional and love to work with children. Thank you SOR teachers and administrators for all you do for our kids. Highly recommend this school if your kid is into music!
My son has been coming to School of Rock (SOR) since May 2021, for 2 yrs. He has had great instructors & directors, & also not so great make-up instructor (that made him cry). The 1st year, he advanced & grew, after that, he started to plateau due to repetition & dullness of the program. His instructor has been great & tried his best to squeeze songs that my kid actually wants to learn, but with band songs that he has to learn it is difficult to learn songs that he is interested in. Aside from this, my issue is with their policies. You have to give them a 24-hour notice if your kid gets sick, or they can’t give you a make-up lesson. However, the school has canceled lessons with a one hour notice. Unfortunately, the school does not open until 2 pm & you’re unable to notify them sooner if your kid wakes up sick that day.
* For reference, we paid $355 a month for a once a week lesson & band. Their policy includes a 24-hour notice if your kid gets sick & a 30-day notice if you want to cancel your membership.
*My kid will miss his instructor the most, but we will look elsewhere for better growth & a more understanding sick policy.
***to the owner***
I did text at 9 am, letting SOR know of my kid being sick. When I called at 4 pm to confirm they had canceled, they told me it had not been canceled yet. I’ve never had an issue in the 2 yrs. Also, it is not just the policies. To be honest, kids want newer fun songs. They keep playing 1980s songs that they’re just not into. Also, in the 2 years, a few kids have enrolled SOR do to our referral, but was bummed that we couldn’t even get one make-up day for being sick. Feel free to call me if you want to discuss this further. Once again, the instructors & directors have always been awesome.
Great camaraderie with fellow band mates in adult band and learning how to practice to perform is a lot of fun. The rewards of lots of practice come through at the end of season shows.
I like it but they don’t let you watch the class…and it concerns me as a grandmother of a 5 year old ..they say it’s a security issue but can’t explain why we can view on tge TV in the waiting room
people were cool and it was a good premise of the place, but as a guitar player i was not taught anything valuable and im not sure if it was my instructor or not but it was honestly just a waste of both time and money.
The class is only 30 minutes long, and the kids are on time but they can’t get to class right away and they always wait outside, but the class is over on time!
The problem isn’t that 30 minutes of study isn’t enough, it’s that the class should be 30 minutes long
