We joined school of rock nearly a year ago today. To say it was a life changing experience barely does it justice. Heather has created an environment that is second to none. She clearly treats her staff and instructors well and with proper respect as I’ve seen ZERO turnover in a year. That is a feat.
Watching my kids flourish in a way I never expected. My, seemingly, shy boy is turning into a man and his experience in front of the mic is part of it for certain. And my daughter has committed to drums in a way I didn’t expect. She even got behind the mic recently to sing which she used to say she was too shy to do! Performing as part of a group is irreplaceable.
The community is what makes this place work and Heather has created a space where community is first in importance. Do yourself a favor. Send your kids here for a trial lesson! Then just skip the wait (like we should have) and just do a trial lesson for yourself for the adult band you absolutely won’t regret it

I love that School of Rock sparks a passion to become a great musician, learn multiple instruments and be an integral member of the band. This experience is unparalleled and provides a much more enhanced musical education beyond private music lessons. The group environment is extraordinarily dynamic, exacts demanding expectations from each musician and propels these kids to greatness.
They make learning music so fun for the kids. The performance program rocks!
Full disclosure: I have never taken a class here, nor have I ever interacted with an instructor. But I happened upon a public concert being given by the students of School of Rock West LA, and I was blown away by the talent and stage presence of middle school kids. Clearly, this place has developed a rigorous training program and is capable of producing impressive musicians.
Great staff great location great music
Kelly who “runs” the school is absolutely awful. She is unprofessional, combative, lacks follow-up skills, lacks customer service skills, and is incredibly rude and unable to resolve conflict. I would never send my child to a place that is run by a person like Kelly. That said, I pulled my child out of the summer camp.

We love SoR! All the staff and teachers and high quality/super fun.
Highly recommend!
These kids really love doing shows and playing music together, and it shows. Our son has been in the program now for around 4 years playing guitar, and he’s done 8 or so performance shows. He also has tried lead–singer, song writing, ukulele, and even cowbell :-). It’s such an amazing experience as a parent to see your kid get up on a stage in front of a live audience, completely at ease, confident, and then totally shred! The SOR instructors have been truly amazing and dedicated, and these kids really love to play, practice and perform! What a top notch group of people shaping our kids to be talented and confident young musicians. It’s been the best extra-curricular instruction we could ever have imagined. Thank you Tyler, Matt, and all the rest of the staff at San Diego SOR, you rock!

I love the community which includes all types of kids. Being different or weird is celebrated. I love teachers’ passion about music, the opportunity to learn and play music kids love, different styles, old and new, the teaching style and professionalism. I love the opportunity of concerts in the best venues (when Covid allows) so kids feel like real rock stars. Nowadays I truly appreciate in person classes as it’s a visible therapy for my teen’s Covid depression . I love the fact the School figured it out how to continue in person classes even in such hard conditions and restrictions. Because kids don’t have regular school, you give our kids hope and purpose. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see a genuine glow of happiness and joy in my daughter’s face every time she returns from class. It’s priceless.

My experience with School of Rock has been mostly with private lessons and briefly with Adult Rock band. I have been playing drums for 8 years. Damon has been the perfect drum coach for me at this point. We work on rudiments, on specific songs, on improvisation, showmanship, and we just have fun. He makes me wear ear protection!
The reason I rated a 4 and not a 5 is that there is an element of rigidity in how they do things. But overall, it is an awesome place. Especially if you are a parent with a musical child it is fantastic.
