Love this place from the owners to the instructors
My 13 year old daughter loves it here! She is guitarist and has been playing/taking lessons for 9 years.
When the studio opened, we thought it’d be a great place for her to grow her knowledge of music. She did a songwriting summer camp and really loved it. Since then, her interest in music has expanded exponentially. She takes guitar and drum lessons here, and also takes performance band (which is seriously the coolest concept ever).
I attribute her passion to the warm, welcoming, and safe environment the owners and teachers have cultivated here. The teachers provide nearly instant feedback when a lesson is finished. The end of the term performances are so fun – it is so amazing to watch the kids learn how to perform fun songs for an audience!
If your kiddo is interested in music, this is the place to be!
Jon’s enthusiasm and kindness had us jumping in with both feet. We are excited to begin this adventure with them. We have tried in the past, with our older children, at other companies and were all duds!! This place ROCKS!!

My son has been going to the Detroit School of Rock and Pop since he was 7 years old. He is now a senior in high school and an incredible musician and singer as a result of the amazing jobs
His teachers and mentors did at DSRP.
His band has played all over the city and he’s experienced live broadcasts and wonderful events full of interesting people. The support he received through this program not only helped him grow artistically, but as a person as well. Shout out to Julie, Rocco, Jason, and Sherry for helping to guide Cole in his musical career. He has loved every minute of it and we have too.
God bless this awesome school!!!
We love the DSRP!!! My boys have excelled so much since they began taking lessons and joined a band 3 years ago. We drive an hour each week from Grosse Ile and it is definitely worth it!
DSRP is the musical ‘glue’ of Royal Oak! Both my kids have been taking lessons for years with Julie and Steve and both are awesome. They have a knack for sneaky teaching, making the kids better while they don’t even know it! When my son came home and asked to listen to and play Rolling Stones tunes, I knew we were at the right palace. Thanks DSRP for all the cool stuff you do!

This camp is a family favorite. My kids ask to go to camp year round. The music is station is amazing!!
Our daughter had a great experience here the summer of 2013. Buying the apparel can be expensive and we were lucky to have a family member who gave us shirts. I have available 3 adult size Small shirts and 3 pairs of the dark blue shorts that girls must wear (just above the knee). I’m willing to ship them to anyone who needs them, I’d just like to “pay forward” the favor someone did for us that helped us save money. The shorts are all size 4, except one is an 8—the 8 must be a different style because our daughter wore all of them. If you’re interested, email me at holmesrsvps at yahoo dot com. I’ll hold onto them until at least May 2015 and then I’ll most likely donate them to 2nd-hand shop.
My oldest child went there this summer and loves how they meet with professional instrument players. The theatre was a great minor for them.
Last year was my first year at blue lake(2018) and Im going again this year. Last year the food was not great and the water tastes like eggs. I suggest to bring water and some snacks that you can enjoy.:)
Update 2021 – I will say, the staff is more helpful/communicative this year. My daughter had a much better 2nd visit and may go back for a 3rd. She had great instructors & staff, and made new friends. I do think Blue Lake need to update their documents to show 7800 Russell and perhaps get Google maps to cooperate, and maybe add some office staff. Still some room for improvement but overall a much improved experience. Thank you! 🙂
2019 – I called trying to get some information on my daughter’s stay at camp and final day. First, I found the info on the pre-prepared online documents (Final Sunday and otherwise) to be inaccurate. The correct info would’ve been good to know before mailing her a package she now may not get. Also, currently unable to purchase the final day parent lunch online, and it’s too late to mail the order form. Also, I was told the 300 E. Crystal Lk. address is incorrect or not the ‘good’ pickup address, which is 7800 Russell – I don’t see that info ANYwhere in the available online documents in the ACCESS pages. Good thing I called?? Speaking of which, I had some specific questions about my daughter and was told the cabin counselor would call me back within 2 hours, possibly with my daughter on the line as well. I have yet to receive a callback. She might be having a great time, happy and healthy… but I have no way to know (until after), and at this rate I’m pretty disappointed with the inaccuracy of info I’ve seen and been told. For the price of this camp, I would like to think that the value would be more than just the ‘prestige’ & that they’d have their ducks in a row a little better.
Additionally, they charge for email credits to send your child an email. Really? After the exorbitant cost of the camp, they nickel and dime you for ’email credits’? There’s NO REASON why the kids shouldn’t be able to use their own phone/email afterhours. It’s tying our hands and then forcing us to pay for a service we really don’t need. I suppose the premise is to ‘unplug’ for 10 days. But I still believe we shouldn’t have to PAY to stay in touch with them.
Could make things more accessible for students.
This place is so bad, when I went there, I was jealous of the people that went to Auschwitz.
Awful camp hated it sent your kids who you hate
I worked there last year not the best place to work for and I’ve tried calling hr about my complaints it’s been over a month no call back
Currently pursuing a degree here and couldn’t be happier!
Great presentation to incoming freshmen hoping to be accepted to College of Music. Informative and exciting!
This is one of the older, traditional buildings in the old part of the Campus. Mostly office and rehearsal spaces, but Cook Recital Hall is the scene of a lot of student and faculty performances.
Undergoing a lot of updates and expansion. The facilities are out of date and all need a big update. May increase score to a 5 when the refurb and expansion is complete. The programs they offer are great but like all schools the program you want may or may not be what you want.
My Fiance goes here and it seems like her masters program is top notch.
My experience with the admissions department was very frustrating and disappointing. I auditioned for the Woodwind Specialist MM program. I received a letter from the graduate school at Michigan State saying I was admitted. I even received the same letter in snail mail. A week later I received a letter from the music department saying that I wasn’t admitted for the Woodwind Specialist program, but they would admit me for the clarinet performance MM if I desired. When I called asking why I received the first letter from the graduate school, the man seemed confused and said I [didn’t] receive a letter because it wasn’t in the records. Why would I make up receiving a letter that I was admitted? He reiterated their policy that the letter from the music department comes first. I said that obviously, their letter had NOT come first. When I emailed a copy of the letter I received from the graduate school saying I was admitted to both the associate director and the director, I received NO response. My problem was NOT with the faculty’s decision. My problem is with the administrative issues. It does not speak highly of the university and does not motivate me to spend 30K on tuition. Simple empathy or an apology of some sort would have gone a long way. Instead, I am sadly writing this Google review to tell you about my experience.

Great local music school that has private (Suzuki) lessons for violin, piano, winds, etc
Always great performances.
The new Community Music School building is well organized, and the design of the place is colorful and welcoming. It provides good music lessons and a place to practice on percussion instruments. The percussion studio is also much improved.
Pretty limited parking here, but the Ten Pound Fiddle puts on great concerts here.
It is horibl
Small space, good show
The J-RO School of Music
Address: 4084 John R Rd, Troy, MI 48085 , Barysawski Rayon , Michigan , United States
My guitar skills have improved greatly as a result of being a student of J-Ro School of Music. Josh has an enthusiastic and detailed approach to music instruction, which is an asset in propelling a student to the next skill level musically.
I started J-ro in October. My voice has drastically changed since then, in a great way. Everyone there, staff and students, are so nice and accepting. You can tell the teachers there put everything into what they do. Every week I look forward to going to my lesson because I grow so much every week. Thanks J-ro for everything. :))
Josh is an excellent musician and teacher. I came to him for voice lessons and he helped me strengthen all of my notes across my whole range, and especially the top pitches. He helped clarify for me how to sing different darker or lighter tones for very different styles of songs, which is very helpful. He also stresses the mental game of being a top-notch musician which is critical to long term success and improvement.
Classes are good but sometimes you can’t hear yourself even with the headphones as some instrumentalist will be playing acoustic instruments
We’ve been attending for several months now, underwhelmed by our child’s progress. Appears to be partially attributable to poor management

Excellent location for a concert! Boz Skaggs last night was great! Beautiful facility !
Great Venue, Corson Auditorium…watched Ricky Skaggs..what a great show……
I went, years ago as a part of the band program. Even now when I visit, my heart feels “home.”
Great place to perform
I’ve heard of Interlochen before, and know a few people that have attended. This was my first experience going to a concert there. My husband and I got there early to look around. It was really fun, and we enjoyed listening to students practice in the small practice cabins littered throughout the campus.
The Concert itself was great. I saw other people complain about having to bring in a clutch or clear bag instead of a purse. Those rules are stated clearly when you buy the ticket though, nice and big. I brought a clutch and was SO glad I did. The stadium is nice, but the seating is old. So there really isn’t much space for everyone to be bringing in large bags.
Everyone was also great about listening to the music and not taking out your phones to take photos. (Also a rule) it’s the first time in ages I’ve been anywhere were people weren’t taking selfie after selfie the entire time. (People, including me, took out their phones at the very last performance to take photos, and I think that worked best.)
Also, the Tamale Ladies food truck was at the venue! So freaking yummy!
I like extra butter…. No arcade though
Absolutely disappointed with this camp, it is absurd that they charge such a large amount of money and not give them a good bed to rest, a good meal to feed themselves, students eat spoiled meals, and besides that they charge so much tuition money and uniforms put them to clean toilets, bathtubs, sweep, etc .. With all the money they charge easily could pay a person to take charge of cleaning, it looks like a juvenile correctional and not a music camp. My son has been in other camps where they charge less money and there is better treatment. My son will not return to this camp and I do not recommend it to anyone else either. If I could give -1 I would.
So when I booked it only had one picture of the lake and a deck which was nice. When we got there it is actually located in a summer school academy which I thought was a little weird. The room was small and looked like an old college dormitory. The bathroom was very small and outdated. The shower did not drain well. I almost fell on to the toilet because it was so low to the ground. However the good part of the hotel was the short walk down to the lake where you could sit on a deck, which there were multiple ones and relax. I don’t think I will stay here again as it is not the environment that I expected for a hotel.
Very disorganized, the application process was disorganized and we got passed from staff to staff.
Interlochen Scholarshop
Address: 4000 M-137, Interlochen, MI 49643 , Barysawski Rayon , Michigan , United States
If you’ve never been to Interlochen or know itd history and what it represents….you have my pity!
The Scholarshop at Interlochen is great, whether you’re looking for that last item your student forgot to tell you they needed for the school year or wanting to pick up a window sticker and tee shirt to let everyone know you’re spending almost the GNP of the Faroe Islands for your students’ high school education!
They have lots of everyday items that your student will need and often run out of before letting you know or remembering to pick up for themselves, when in town, which is why the Scholarshop stocks them. There is also a section for food that the students like to indulge in, a decent section of school books, a tech section to grab a new cable from and a small area for students to hang out in.
The Scholarshop is also where you will be able to access the Interlochen Box Office and Melody Freeze during the Winter months, which is much saner than standing outside during a blizzard trying to purchase an ice cream cone or tickets for the upcoming show…
All in all, the Scholarshop is a perfect blend of necessity, convenience and indulgence all stuffed into a cozy space on campus and ready for students and parents to grab whatever it is they find a need for. Stop in the next time you’re on campus and I bet you walk out with something.
I worked at the beautiful arts academy for 5 seasons. Including the scholarship. They have a lot of good deals and all your school needs.
Awesome real nice people
I get an employee discount there.
Very nice and unique. I wish I would have bought the coffee mug that said “# is a sharp not a hashtag”

Beautiful place to walk or bike. Masks required outside and inside (September 2020)
Michigan State University look like a great place and my daughter said with she graduate from high school she going to go there and I know she’s going because she is a hard worker.
A wonderful university full of culture, student life, advanced study, and beautiful landscape. Go Green! Go White! Go State!
Its beautiful school and wonderfull
Didn’t quailify for study
I learned to read here. And read, and read, and read.
I hate this place. Thus, it is the greatest school in the world (in many people’s opinion), Its my greatest Rival.
