Great place to study that nice locrian scale and have homework-induced anxiety attacks, and practice rooms are ideal not only for making music but also bawling your eyes out. Theres so much natural lighting I forget about all the corrupt political scandals and tax evasiom that permeates the fabric of our country. The stairs give me a lovely workout, and sometimes I go from floor 0 to floor 5 just to feel something.
The architecture is lovely, and the acoustics in the recital/concert halls are so great that you can hear the echoes from the performing students’ past, when you could see the hopes and dreams in their starry eyes, when they thoroughly enjoyed making music, when it wasn’t a chore to get good grades, and when they were convinced they had a bright future ahead of them. Now all you see is the same repetitive schedule, the light has died from their eyes, but they cling onto the one thing they’ve always known: music. They push on and on, performing in that red room, yearning for that passion to return…
(Okay, all sarcasm aside, I do actually love this building and the opportunities I’ve had from the UI music program!)
Absolutely beautiful building and an even better study atmosphere
Attended the beautiful concert put on by the students of the University of Iowa.
