Both of my children have had and still are having an amazing experience at the School of Rock New Canaan.
The talented instructors coupled with the real sense of belonging, not to mention the outstanding shows they participate in, leave us coming back for more!
Fun group of fellow musician and music lovers to work with. The program seems pretty well organized for the most part so far. This is my first time participating so I’ll have to see how the session winds up. I’m enjoying so far…
My 8 yo boy absolutely loved his experience with School of Rock in New Canaan. We’re sticking with them for many years to come! Amazing staff and teachers who are just perfect with kids.
There’s a lot of kids in these programs… some work harder than others and it’s clear they have their favorites. If you’re not one of them, it will just be an average experience, so don’t be fooled by the high ratings. Unless you really push for it, don’t expect much.

very based 10/10 would recommend the environment is very friendly and encouraging
Amazing team of teachers and owners! They have a unique approach – learn music as a group to understand working together as a group – or a band (with eventual option for private lesson add ons). He always comes out of class happy and feeling supported by the teachers. My son had to pivot because of attention issues. Rather than chastise him and set him up for failure, the staff at School of Rock approached it with positivity and kindness. He is now in private lessons and enjoying it. Thank you School of Rock!
Another parent highly recommended the School of Rock for my musical 15-year-old. We have only been at the School of Rock West Hartford for 1 season, and it has been an amazing experience – we are looking forward to the concert for each band to showcase all their hard work and talent! My son is not a die-hard sports kid (although he has been on several teams at school); he really loves music, plays piano and sax.
Being in a band takes the band members to a new level in their musical development/performance…it provides experience working in a “team” environment, offers opportunities for introverted kids to step outside their comfort zone with peers who possess similar interests and form new friendships, and helps band members gain confidence and self-esteem.
The School of Rock West Hartford is conveniently located a few minutes off I-84 next to Blue Back Square and has free parking at the facility.
Upon entering School of Rock, you can hear the band practicing, the energy of the staff is very positive, and the band members sound like they are having a great time together in the student waiting room. My son loves the passion and encouragement of all his instructors, who make the private lesson as well as the band practice a fun, engaging, educational and enriching experience every time. The band members encourage each other also. Through the instructors own musical training as well as the School of Rock performance methodology, they quickly learn their band member/students’ strengths and areas for opportunity and make them feel like they are an important part of the band. I love how the instructors make each band member feel like a real rock star.
I highly recommend the School of Rock experience!

My two sons are counting down the days until their 4th summer at Laurel begins. There are so many options out there, and I truly feel like we hit the jackpot with Laurel. While the facilities are second to none and beyond impressive, that is not what makes Laurel so special. The best part about Laurel are the people, beginning with the directors Jem and Debbie Sollinger. My kids truly love Jem. The attention that Jem gives to each camper is remarkable. He is front and center in everything going on at camp. While I’m not there to witness myself, the daily scroll through the photos paints a great picture. And it doesn’t stop with Jem – the staff training is incredibly thorough and intentional. They really know how to work with kids. One of my sons struggled with some cabin relationships, but the connection he had with his counsellors and campus leaders was exactly what he needed to navigate through.
Camp is a regular conversation topic in our house and each year they come back giving their summer a 10/10. They truly live “10-4-2”!
I can truly say Camp Laurel is my favorite place in the world. I started camp when I was 7 turning 8 in the 2009 summer. I have recently finished my 8th and final summer as I was a Super Senior. Laurel has taught me how to be a leader and has let me grow into the person I am today. I am eternally grateful for all the love and support from the Laurel family that is really like nowhere else. Camp Laurel has given me opportunities I never knew I was capable of which I will always be thankful for. I am proud to now and forever be a Laurel camper.
Camp Laurel is amazing! Not only is it beautiful but it offers a program second to none. Jem and Debbie are exceptional directors and the staff is top notch. Kids can take advantage of a wide range of activities and really focus in on what they love. They have so many fun activities going on, the kids are constantly engaged. They also have awesome out of camp trips! My kids love it and we are so happy there!

Very professional and very caring. My daughter has improved dramatically since starting here and absolutely loved everyone there. Best investment we ever made!
We cant say enough about the staff and culture at New Haven Academy of Performing Arts. Since the first day we stepped foot in there we have always felt like family. This type of environment has allowed our son to discover the creativity in him and the confidence to express it on stage and in life. We are extremely greatful for all they do for our son daily and would highly recommend NHAOPA to anyone entertaining enrolling there child here.
My Missy started at NHAOPA in late 2015 on a whim and never looked back. She’s learned and grown so much all while having fun and building lasting, meaningful relationships. Through this pandemic, Billy, Neil and the teachers at NHAOPA have managed to navigate ever changing rules and regulations to keep the kids safe and allow them to do what they love. They’ve allowed for some normalcy for my daughter. She’s been able to continue classes, vocal lessons and summer intensive (both virtually and in person). Most importantly, they’ve allowed her the opportunity to be with her friends in a safe space. I’ve always said that my daughter not only found her passion at NHAOPA, she found her people.
