Our son has had a great experience with the staff and students at School of Rock Annapolis over the last two years. He’s grown both as a musician and as a performer and is challenged in so many positive ways to stretch and get out of his comfort zone. Starting with Rock 101 and moving into the performance program has been so much fun and exposed him (and us) to some incredible music and truly talented kids! Thank you SOR Annapolis!
We have encouraged our 3 boys to try every activity under the sun, from horseback riding to sports to martial arts, in hopes that they’d find something they were super excited about. Two out of three of our boys found their PASSIONS with the School of Rock performance program. (third son enjoys SOR too, but music isn’t his major, MAJOR love.) They have done 1:1 lessons at other music schools with all different instruments and with really amazing teachers, but there is something about the format of SOR, with the opportunities to actually perform songs with a band, that makes it magic. My boys practice on their own and look forward to every lesson and every band rehearsal. Of course, SOR is also well-run and the teachers are incredible, but the kids’ joy is really the best indication of a top-notch experience. I have to say, we were very hesitant about spending the money because regular individual music lessons are less expensive, but I’m having a hard time putting a price on a true lifelong passion, skill, mood-elevator, confidence-booster, means for social-engagement, etc.
Hayley the Keys instructor was great. We did our free trial with her and my 9 year old daughter had a great experience. So we signed up for the program.
At 9 she was placed in Rock 101. The kids were mostly younger than her, and it usually felt like glorified babysitting vs becoming a better musician.
Huge communication disconnect re:homework/expectations between the private lesson, Rock 101 and the School of Rock app causing tears that could be avoided and much frustration for parents!
We also tried one of the summer camps, signed up both kids. The fees included “Recording: campers will record their songs with camp directors so that they can share with family and friends!”.
This was not so! I emailed to follow up to receive this keepsake of their song writing, and the school did not have a file to share.

My five year old loved the school! She feels like a rock star 🙂
Our child is thrilled going to DC School of Rock. Now he wants to go every day. The attention that he gets is unbelievable. Thank you so much to Chris and his team for delivering marvelous experience for our kids. Keep up the great work!
My son is a drummer and joined to apply his years of lessons into a real band situation that the other music lesson place did not offer. He LOVES it. Staff are fantastic and he has made some great friends here too! Highly recommend.
Owner contacted me about working there, was rude and inconsiderate on the phone. Very disappointing.
Beware! While the program might be interesting, the Cleveland Park location is poorly run and it will bring you more headaches than benefits.
