Awesome place to learn and better yourself as a musician! Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and great at inspiring the students to learn music! The School of Rock method is streamlined through professional means to keep that consistency with the successful franchise. The location is very clean, easy to navigate, decor is elevated all around and COVID-19 precautions were in place when it was needed most, still optionable I believe at request. Learning music can inspire confidence for somebody of any age, it’s invaluable and although it could be very tough to learn instruments it can be very fufilling, very good for the brain as well! I myself have taken lessons in the past from private teachers all the way through college level classes and having the system in place is highly effective, curtailed to modern technology like apps. Pricing is reasonable, the skills for life are worth unpinching any penny. What would I change? Perhaps building a small stage to lift drums off floor in band rooms, T.V in the back lobby, more soundproofing including foam, diffusion and although this is more of a franchise suggestion, adding music studio/production/recording elements to the mix! Also, more raises for the drum teachers!! Great location!

My child has taken piano, ukulele and now bass guitar at UpBeat! The staff and teachers are super talented and really invested in student success. They foster a supportive environment that allows students to work at their own pace. We can highly recommend Jarrett and Eric, and are grateful to have UpBeat in our community.
UpBeat is such a great group of people with a great mission and message. The impact they continue to have on the community is felt in deep and lasting ways. They foster a deep passion for music and a deep love of community. So great!
UpBeat is amazing!

Bringing our kid to the School of Rock was one of our best decisions. Well-invested money. The instructors know how to play and how to teach playing instruments. Drums, guitars, vocals, keys. Awesome. Highly recommended.
My daughter recently performed in her first School of Rock “gig” since beginning to take guitar lessons there. I had not seen the SOR bands perform before. Going in to the performance, I keptr my expectations in check for my daughter, both in terms of her comfort of being on stage and her playing ability. My expectations for the performances overall were tempered as well. I think I expected children to miss notes and to get off rhythm occasionally. I was so impressed with how polished the bands actually sounded. They were all playing music I really enjoy, and doing it really well. I’m even more excited to see how my daughter progresses going forward, and I’m legitimately looking forward to future performances, simply for the chance to listen to good music played well.
Thank you to administrators and the instructors for making School of Rock fun for my daughter and for obviously doing such a good job teaching the children to play music.
The teachers and staff here are awesome, and it’s really exciting to watch my son expand his musical interests into bands he’d probably never otherwise listen to, like the Beatles or the Cure. I’m excited to watch him grow here. He particularly loves the group rehearsals. I highly recommend this place!
LOVE LOVE LOVE it here. My daughter won’t stop talking about it. Great space, everyone is friendly and I love the vibe.
Wish a few teachers had a little more training in controlling kids. Some kids like to take control of the class and a couple teachers are too gentle in calling them. It effects class time for others.
Very unprofessional.
Chicago Summer Music Camp

My kids loved the camp. They learned a ton in a week. Definitely a great find in Downers.
My girl was super excited about the camp. Every day she would come home and show off what she learned or new composition she had composed. She was so sad that it ended and wished it was longer than just a week. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
So much fun! We had a great time.

Excellent staff and great overall experience with SOR
I love that they are grouped w/ other kids to form a band & on stage quickly!
My 11 year old son has been in the Arlington Heights School of Rock for almost a year now it is amazing how quickly his drum skills have progressed! He takes lessons and also participates in the shows. The show preparation is well plan with right time amount. The show was very amazing and My son enjoyed so much! This is a great music school where kids learn fast with a lot of fun. All the lessons and performance rehearsals definitely worth what we paid for. Staff and instructors are easy to communicate and be very friendly!
They do an excellent job trying to ensure the student experience is a positive and rich one. My daughter loves her instructor.
listened at the show at the library, very good.

This place is great! My son is excited to go to his keyboard lessons every week, has an amazing teacher, and loves his Rock 101 band practices! 10 out of 10!
Very talented staff and professional experience
Incredible program. Incredible staff.

My son is 13, is pretty introverted. He is mostly into gaming, accept when it comes to going to his lessons and rehearsals at The School of Rock. He sincerely LOVES this place and it has brought out so much personality in him. Music, being a part of a band, the teachers, is helping him come out of his shell- and express himself. I can’t wait to continue this journey and watch him have a great time in this positive environment.
We love everything about School of Rock! The teachers are fantastic and invested in their students’ growth in all areas of music and performance.
The staff and the shows are great! The kids make friends and learn to get on stage and they build confidence!

Just finished the first adult program and performance at Hinsdale school of rock. Staff across the schools is top notch and a special shout out to John Nugent for helping us cross the fishing line and making our first adult performance program a resounding success!
Our son loves learning the guitar in one on one sessions and practicing with the “band” in the Rock 101 sessions. School of Rock really fuels his interest in learning to play in a welcoming atmosphere. The instructors are top rate and make learning an instrument a really fun experience!
Can’t say enough great things about School of Rock Hinsdale! The staff is so thoughtful about everything they do for the kids, and our daughter has THE BEST TIME every time she goes! The instructors have helped her try things she never thought she’d try (like singing) and they have brought her to a new level as a musician. Thank you for giving our daughter the music experience we were all hoping for her to have!
Merit School of Music
Address: 38 S Peoria St, Chicago, IL 60607 , Portage Park , Illinois , United States
I’ve had 5 kids study at Merit in everything from band to orchestra and piano. We do the conservatory, the thursday classes, private lessons, and the camps. We’ve never had a bad experience. My kids have made a lot of progress musically and made friends there. The teachers are passionate, direct, and interesting. My kids don’t complain about going there, even though it’s a long drive and it’s work. I think Merit does a great job.
We love Merit, they really work with you to keep your child into music. My children have been playing here for 2 years
I send my 8 month old daughter to the bilingual music class. She really loves it ! She has a lot of fun playing with other babies and banging on the instruments. The instructors do a great job keeping her entertained .
I like the convenient location and how there are lots of class times so I can find something that works with her nap schedule .
My family loves Merit Music. My daughter studied with Ms. Elena for 12 years. Her instruction was caring and deeply informed; Ms.Elena is an inspiring artists. My nephew and neighbors have enthusiastically attended various classes over the years. I highly recommend Merit.
Best place to learn music
Canceled venue for no reason, cost me alot of money…Very Unprofessional!!!
Do not go there.
Takes private piano lessons at this facility. There were 32 lessons in a school year. Teacher won’t track each student’s schedule. Just use the generic one for everyone. So we had to track the schedule by ourselves since $60 is the cost for one single lesson.
In the first year, we were given 31 lessons. In the 2nd year, we were given 29 lessons. Talked to the staff and were told that there were hundreds of students asking for the same thing.
Overall, unorganized facility.
I bought tickets to a comedy show that was to be held at this institution. I then found out the show was cancelled by this institution as a form of censorship. I thought free expression was a staple of art and question the ethics of Merit and any other school simultaneously promoting art and censorship
Music House, School of Performing Arts West Rogers Park
Address: 2925 W Devon Ave, Chicago, IL 60659 , Portage Park , Illinois , United States
We started bringing our 7 year old son here initially for guitar classes and he now goes yo day camp on almost all school off dates. The sraff and owners are extremely nice and attentive to both our son’s needs and our schedule. We are so happy that they offer such a variety if activities and our kid always looks forward to the next time he gets to go for a guitar class or camp. Music House has a place for almost any age group and interest.
Great dance school! Really student focused.
I can’t believe what these teachers can do. I attended the grand opening of the Dance Studio a while back and they had performances by students and I was blown away. I’ve never seen such talent in children so young and I was in band throughout High School. (Percussion) The way they inspired the kids to not just learn an instrument but to truly find joy in the music is something to be admired and heavily applauded.
I was surprised at the range of classes to choose from. I’ve already signed my niece up for their Piano and Keyboard Lessons for her birthday. (Though she really wants to check out the “School of Rock”. I’ll let her parents deal with that! LOL)
I couldn’t be more impressed and I truly wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood when I was a child!
My son has attended during off days from school and has enjoyed it.
good stuff
Horrible experience at dancing class for toddlers.
I had taken piano Lessons for four months, I haven’t exited on their practice ,because they don’t have flexibility and friendly trainers. Actually they do for children not for adults. So if you adults and want to do so,I recommend you don’t go there.
Phone doesn’t work, don’t respond email. Yet, place in edgewater called me back after a few hours from my contact form. No brainer now.
School of Rock

Tina worked very hard to make scheduling work for my daughter, despite the fact that we are summer-only clients. Laura works very well with children and knows her craft very well and is able to teach it effectively.
School of Rock Glen Ellyn is a wonderful music school. The instructors are fantastic musicians and teachers. My son has made tons of progress in the year he has been enrolled there. He has started playing two new instruments, and has greatly improved his guitar technique. The performance opportunities are incredible, and my son has developed a lot more confidence on stage. The environment is warm and welcoming, and the students are really nice kids. A great thing about this school is the interaction among the students – they teach and encourage each other and learn to play together as a band. My son feels a real sense of comradery with his fellow students. I recommend School of Rock Glen Ellyn without reservation. It is an amazing place!
Absolutely love school of Rock. We tried guitar lessons from other music stores and my son just didn’t stick with it. He loves school of rock. They have a completely different approach. Highly recommend!
Disappointing. I have two kids there. They decided to switch my kids lesson whither I liked it or not, because her teacher was needed elsewhere. They were having her teacher teach a group class. So they inconvenienced us to make more money whither we liked it or not.
My other child is in group kids class, it doesn’t seem like he’s learning anything. He spent one day drawing a picture of drums and played no music. It’s more like music themed daycare than music lessons. Classes start late every week.
I was using SoR in Elmhurst. They rarely had the same teacher from week to week, at least there each kid got to play their own instruments for the class. My scheduled changed and they don’t have Sat classes. Usually with the franchisee model things are held together a lot better.
It’s too bad because I like the model where kids play together.
School of Rock

Great instructors that take a real interest in their students and their music. The shows are well attended and are expertly produced.
School of Rock has been amazing for my son. They’re knowledgeable, kind, amazing teachers who foster a love of music while teaching the skills needed to play.
I highly recommend School of Rock Mokena! Everyone that works there is passionate, caring, motivating, and highly knowledgeable! My son is learning so much, while having so much fun! They know how to truly engage and push kids to improve their craft. Eric is an awesome drum teacher and the owner Mark truly cares about the students, you can tell it’s not about making money for him. I am always recommending them to anyone looking for lessons. They are extremely professional, but at the same time laid back and fun. Just when my son was ready to give up music, School of Rock Mokena light that fire in him again and it has been burning ever since!
Summer Camp is so much fun for my guitarist! It brings out the little rockstar in her. I love the energy of the teachers and how they inspire the kids to do their best! I would give it 5 out of 5 stars, but the cost is high for lessons and camp.

My daughter LOOOOVES School of Rock! Her teacher Mrs Jasmine is VERY skilled, kind, patient and always so encouraging. My daughter feels at home as soon as she walks in the door! Rachel at the front desk is wonderful! She is always informative with anything that we need to know. I am kept up to date on all lessons with reminders for each class. I appreciate that SOR is on top of all communication with anything going on at the studio. So far we have really enjoyed our experience!
My teen has learned so much and has a blast!
My son loves going to the School of Rock Naperville. He says it feels like family and looks forward to every session. And he is improving his skill level!
My 10-year old son had been a student at SOR Naperville for over two years. At 8 1/2, after begging him to practice and play piano for 3 years, I finally asked, “What instrument would you be willing to practice? The answer, “drums”. This prompted us to enroll him in private lessons which eventually led to Rock 101. Since then, he has performed in 3 live shows and he considers SOR his home away from home. We have seen him gain so much self-confidence and a sense of who he is from this experience. Their approach to learning is unique and builds a community of artists and creates an outlet for kids who otherwise would not have one.
Living in a community like Naperville, kids are fortunate to be exposed to so many different activities at a very young age. Like many families, we started out in soccer and Tball with our son. It became clear early on that team sports was not his “groove” and that he would have to find someplace else to excel. We would never have guessed at that time that it would be School of Rock. Their approach to learning music motivates kids to practice and improve so that they do not let down their “team” of musicians and so that they are ready to perform on their performance date. Taking both a group and private lesson each week really increases their retention and confidence.
He has not only learned the drums and bass guitar, but he is now begging us for vocal lessons! We knew SOR was the right place for him when on a 3rd grade writing assignment he wrote, ” I feel most at home at School of Rock.” “I love to stay late after my lesson and read my book while I wait for my Mom”. To know that our son feels like he fits in and that he feels so comfortable there is very reassuring to us. Each of his coaches has encouraged and motivated him differently and he respects that they all are live performers and can speak from their experience on stage.
We feel like part of the School of Rock Naperville family and are proud to say so! The owner and manager have always been grateful for our business, accommodated all of our scheduling requests and taken great care of our son!
The Chitwood Family
This is a fun-filled and energy-filled place. It’s a great afters-long-school-day activity for the kids to follow. When they need to run off some of their bottled-up energy into something productive yet fun: Not too structured, not too sitting down without moving.
Have had rather negative experiences here with the instructors and overall learning environment. Will need to look elsewhere.
