My son (12) plays drums, and my daughter (14) plays guitar. We’ve been going to SoR Natick since late February and they are having a great time.
It is expensive, especially with two kids going at the same time, but if you count the 2.5 hours a week of rehearsal time + the .75 hours a week of instruction time it comes out to about $23/hour ($325 a month divided by ~14 hours/month). Granted they are not playing for the full 2.5 hours of rehearsal time, it’s still a good value if you consider music store lessons are $25-$35 for a *half* hour.
The performance program also encourages the kids to practice more often then when they were taking individual lessons. If you value working as a team as a valuable life skill, but your child is not a team sports kind of kid (or maybe you’re not a team sports kind of parent…) SoR is a great program for them to learn work as a team while building a skill they’ll have for life.
How much fun is this! A terrific path towards learning an instrument…. proving the School of Rock is for all ages (I’m 56)…… my son, 10, inspired me…
Total blast.

We highly recommend the Rock 101 camp at School of Rock in Norwood. For the second year in a row, our son had a blast choosing a band name and set list and learning new songs for the end of week performance. The kids and teachers encourage each other and clearly have fun while learning a lot!
I love the concept of immersing the kids into a song and a practicing group/band from the get-go! Especially for kids who have attention issues or get bored easily! Learning by doing is so fantastic… it gets the kids engaged from the start and makes them excited to go each week. Thank you! 🙂
Great teachers.
Update Sept 2023: The Norwood School of Rock fell apart in Spring 2023 due to actions of the owners. Big staff and leadership turnover. They are currently trying to get back on their feet. I ended up leaving due to the culture shock.
Original review: I am learning drums and am part of the adult rock band group at School of Rock Norwood. Combining the lesson with the group is a great way to stay motivated. The group is chill and accepting of all of its members. The staff are zany, super smart, and talented. They get you playing, giving just enough theory and exercises to get you good enough to play, mixed with lots of playing real songs from day 1. Thanks for making my day, School of Rock Norwood!

We get to know this wonderful school by attending their storytelling concert at library. I’m impressed by the professional performance, so I register my kid for the Music pups class. Both of us love this class a lot. The teacher Jennifer is awesome. She’s very passionate and knows how to engage everyone in the class. Both of my kid and I enjoyed sing and dance with her in the class. It helped us build a good memory that will last a long time. And I also learned some music that I could sing to my child in the future. I highly recommend this class to anyone that have babies / toddlers.
My 5 year old boy signed up the high five piano class this fall semester and he really loves the class. The teacher is very friendly and patient, and the class is a good intro of music and piano to kids. In addition, School offers study materials and no need to purchase textbook yourself. Great starting point for children’s music life!
We love the music pops (for infants and toddlers). The teacher is very nice and good at motivating parents and children to sing and dance together. We love the songs. Listening to the songs and singing them in the car with our daughter in the car everyday is such a great fun! We have attended two sessions. Highly recommend this class for parents with infants and/or children aged up to 4!
I have taken all 4 of my children to Music Pups at Powers over the years. We love it! The older kids still sing the songs.
I Hate it so much
I bought a whole session piano class for my niece and then the course was not sufficient so her mom decided to drop but they did not allow for a refund. When she called them to postpone remaining classes for next season they said its okay but asked for extra money from her. Very disappointed. Money is gone without my niece taking any valuable classes!
They are not helpful they waste my money didn’t helped me for that i paid whole summer tuition but we couldn’t get more than 2 classes because of their misunderstanding and they did nothing for that !!!!!!!!

My daughter has taken violin lessons here for seven years, and I could not speak highly enough about our experience at this school. The teachers’ attention to detail, ability to motivate the students, and organization is unbeatable. It’s been amazing to see my daughter thrive here! Highly recommend
Just completed my first week working here as a Admin and Development Assistant. The way they made me go from stranger to part of a family in a mere week was outstanding, I’ve seen the same experience with students that attend the school. Everywhere you look, you see smiling faces and hear beautiful music from musicians of all places. Love this place!!
Excellent music school. Qualified and very attentive and dedicated teachers. Directors and assistants who participate in every routine, in an attentive and competent manner. Numerous music and presentation rooms, installed in old Church rooms, with excellent acoustics. I have a 8 year old daughter with violin lessons and I am very satisfied. Super recommend !!!
Unfortunately, the Music Together class we did with our toddler was not as good as we hoped. The main issues were they don’t play traditional, recognizable children’s music, there is not enough time with instruments, and we found the teacher bossy. She was particularly so to the parents which did not make it fun. Disappointing experience.
My son adored Michael unfortunately the school did not honor all the 3 absences due to covid19 with Dr. Notes after a pretty costly season 2 weeks prior to it being over they told me to purchase a smaller guitar what a joke He cannot even play a note nor read any music Total waste of time And money.
