My nephew Cameron does guitar lessons with Tommy. He really loves it. Tommy does a great job. Really happy we chose here and got Tommy.
My 13 year old daughter loves it here! She is guitarist and has been playing/taking lessons for 9 years.
When the studio opened, we thought it’d be a great place for her to grow her knowledge of music. She did a songwriting summer camp and really loved it. Since then, her interest in music has expanded exponentially. She takes guitar and drum lessons here, and also takes performance band (which is seriously the coolest concept ever).
I attribute her passion to the warm, welcoming, and safe environment the owners and teachers have cultivated here. The teachers provide nearly instant feedback when a lesson is finished. The end of the term performances are so fun – it is so amazing to watch the kids learn how to perform fun songs for an audience!
If your kiddo is interested in music, this is the place to be!
I love music. I love concerts. I always imagined myself as a musician, but failed at piano and guitar previously. At School of Rock, their approach worked!
In three months, i went from never having played the drums … to I can play solid basic beats over the whole kit l. Our beginner band even performed a public mini-gig with an audience at a local bistro. A fantastic experience.
Teachers so talented and patient with me. Great equipment to practice on too. Everyone is chill and really supportive. Weekly private lessons and a separate group/band session with other players learning instruments too…awesome and the key to getting better.
Shout outs to my teachers Mandy, Matt and Jordan and owners Jon and Sarah. They are the best.

School of Rock GR has been fantastic for our preschooler. He especially enjoys his instructor always looks forward to attending weekly classes. Mr. Connor does a brilliant job engaging and (re)directing a room full of energetic kids. He and all of staff are so kind, enthusiastic, and clearly passionate about music which is reflected in the way they interact with the students. We really appreciated the opportunity to do a trial lesson before starting classes, it was a great chance to check out the curriculum; the levels and structure of which are really thoughtfully tailored to age and skill level. Certainly for our kiddo it is both challenging and fun and we’ve already seen the impacts of what he’s been picking up in class. We look forward to continuing here as he progresses.
Everyone here is so welcoming here! I was able to sign up for a trial lesson with the general manager Josh. When I arrived I was warmly greeted by Samantha who gave us a tour of the newly renovated facility. Our lesson was with Scott and he left a lastly impression on my child. I would definitely recommend checking them out.
Such an amazing, professional, accepting, & FUN environment for students.

School Of Rock on Jackson is an amazing establishment. You will be greeted by a warm smile every time and you will have professional instructors. Your lesson will be tailored to your needs and interests. I love School of Rock!
Both of my kids have been going to School of Rock for over a year and absolutely love it! There has never been a day when they don’t want to go. The instructors do a great job making it fun yet educational and my kids love being able to choose the songs they want to learn. I’ve recommended School of Rock to close friends (that have also loved it) and I will continue to recommend them to anyone looking for a great music school.
Great place learn to play music. Very nice and helpful staff and owners.
Lame and bad business practices. 🙁

Best place in town for rehearsal space! Their studio is top notch!
Absolutely the best around! Jason, Sherry, Mike, and all the mentors at DSRP are fantastic. Our son started with their Summer Rocks! summer camp in 8th grade and continued with lessons until graduating from High School. The time and attention that he received from DSRP is invaluable, and Jason even helped us apply for aid from the Live The Music Foundation to assist us in keeping his lessons going when we couldn’t afford it on our own. Today, he is pursuing a career as a professional musician and has many opportunities open to him thanks in large part to the training, mentoring, and connections he received at DSRP.
I can’t say enough good things about them. Thank you Jason, Sherry, Mike and everyone at DSRP! You all rock!
I’ve been a local on & off gigging musician for 35 yrs & didn’t know this place ever existed!! I’m glad it’s here!!!

Was really good instructor was patient and no pressure at all will go back.
This place is great! My daughter took an intro lesson to see what she thought. Being a teen she was nervous at first and hesitant to go. Came out of the building happy and excited. She loves her instructor and what’s she is learning. She would go every day if possible. They are professional, warm, fun, and friendly. My child loves this place!
They have a cool program where you can do lessons on your instrument or voice. And then, if you choose to you can join a band also which meets there weekly. You get to decide what level you sign up for. It’s been a huge hit with my kiddo! Wish I had signed my older child up years ago.
They offer a really great program and we are so happy a friend turned us on to it!
No one asked for this review- we are just that happy about it.
Just started and i already love it!
So I took my son for a trial run with a group of kids at this school last week on a Monday at the Madison Rd location, which he was so excited about, so he went in with (i forget her name..jenny?) and he was just excited about all the instruments, it was only him and another boy. I guess my son was too much for her because she said that he was not really focused on just one instrument and kind of all over the place and recommend Music Therapy because she is a music therapist and that an hour was too much for him, ( I was kind of shock and a little hurt that I didn’t even ask her any other questions, but said ok and left) but she didn’t recommend her services for a personal session or anything, so my husband called the next day and asked about the lady (the music therapist) that did the trial run with Aaron if she can call him back and recommend her services or if she has a referral. its been a little over a week and she has not returned his call. I also did tell them in the beginning he has a vision impairment) I just wish someone would of reached out and recommended something because my son loves music and he is not a bad kid.

Signing our daughter up for School of Rock was one of the best decisions we have made. Not only is she learning how to properly sing, they have built her confidence in a way that no one else was able to. Incredible staff, teachers, and students of all ages!!
The instructors are terrific and COOL. Admin staff are very helpful and friendly. Performance programs are such a great way for kids to learn to play.
Great instruction
Great staff great location great music
Kelly who “runs” the school is absolutely awful. She is unprofessional, combative, lacks follow-up skills, lacks customer service skills, and is incredibly rude and unable to resolve conflict. I would never send my child to a place that is run by a person like Kelly. That said, I pulled my child out of the summer camp.

Definitely recommend this school! My son is doing drums lesson and he has improve a lot! Thanks a lot James for your involvement!!
Keeps my 12 year old interested in playing music and exposes him to a variety of instruments. He loves the band and performing on stage with his peers. For any child who loves music but is not as motivated by traditional music lessons, SOR provides an environment where they can learn music theory in a fun and dynamic way!
I like the well-rounded program that balances individual instruction with group instruction resulting in very successful stage performances. I am impressed with the ever increasing abilities of the students who are involved with the School of Rock program. My son has made fantastic friends and is quickly becoming a great musician with an appreciation of many different musical genres. Couldn’t be happier… Thank you School of Rock staff for all the instruction and support you give to our children and their families!

Good I like the school I have my daughter enrolled for singing and I’m happy with the results you. Should try it is good for teenagers I’m happy when I see the band playing together is awesome watt can do. For kids of that age
Amazing,great teachers,great place
You don’t know how many parents I meet who share the same story “my kid tried to play guitar but got bored and quit” or “my kid quit playing piano…she just wouldn’t practice”. Our local School of Rock in East Brunswick is the answer. My two sons started three years ago and they LOVE it. The formula there is simple: individual lessons combined with a full band experience. My sons actually practice without me asking because a) they don’t want to let down their fellow band members, and b) they have so much fun at rehearsals and live performances playing. When music is fun for kids they keep doing it, and the longer they keep doing it the better they get. The young men and women who serve as instructors there have become cool musical role models for my boys, introducing them to new bands and genres they may have never experienced. I just can’t say enough about this program and the professional staff. When they graduate from the school, School of Rock will have given them a skill which will allow them to find a like-minded community wherever they go in life. Sorry I went a little overboard! I strongly recommend this for any school aged kid.
Great place to get young kids exposed to music and instruments.
The most unprofessional owner who defames other local business’ and will argue with parents. If I could give it 0 stars I would. The instructors are fabolous and great with kids. I’m not sure how this place is in business still based on management alone.
The owner Denise is very rude and unprofessional! I was running late for my son’ s rescheduled lesson. I arrived about 20 minutes late due to an accident on route 18 to a locked school. When I spoke to Denise, she said the teacher had to go to work. When I told her my son’s lessons were 45 minutes, he still had time in his lesson. He still had 25 minutes left. She told me for the first time, it’s policy that they wait 15 minutes. Although the teacher was willing to reschedule the lesson, she refused to allow it. She would not en reshedule the 25 minutes that the teacher was not there. She stole 25 minutes from my son.
Needless to say, I gave 1 months notice and cancelled and now my son goes to the School of Rock in Clark. He is loving it. In addition to private lessons he is taking Rock 101. When I asked the manager at the Clark location if it is School of Rock procedure to wait only 15 minutes, she said she never heard of that. She told me if someone doesnt show, they call to follow up and see if you are on your way. I believe this is common courtesy, especially since, we are early 99 percent of the time. I guess all Denise cares about is getting your money! She did me a favor though because the Clark location is actually closer to my house.
Take heed when dealing with her.
Bad management. My grandson went to the camp here. Very expensive and not very professional…..his brand new guitar broke on the first day at camp….the counselor didn’t see what happened…well where was he?? There are only 6 kids in the class and a small room. How could he not know what happened? The web site says that they will provide instruments….all they could provide him with was an electric guitar….which he did not like ….not what he wanted so they convinced him to play the keyboard. We had to convince him that he had to try to go back the next day….he was very upset but this place is too expensive to just give up. They advertise all kinds of “great” teaching methods and that your child will learn how to play a song. Well for over $400 he learned 3 notes on the keyboard. They had a show at the end of the week…what joke…the drummer and the two guitar player obviously had been going to this place for lessons for quite a while. They should really have better management. Another point came up that my grandson said it was too loud…I sent him with my phone headphones and asked when I dropped him off if they had headphones he could use since mine were not really the correct ones….I was told they have them but they are on a first come first served basis…well when I went to the show no other child had headphones so where were they ones that they had. The room is so tiny and they had tremendous speakers….way too loud for this purpose…I know sound like and old lady but this place is not what it’s advertised to be. At least for the camps. Maybe their lessons are better but if I were you I wouldn’t waste my money here. And now we have to buy another guitar!

Awesome staff. My daughter LOVES and looks forward to her piano lesson each week.
Piano lessons for my GrandSun, Quince Jr.
I absolutely love teaching here. A great environment for both kids and adults. Our desk girl/secretary Kala is absolutely awesome. Our owner Henry is a very kind and good man. I am proud to teach here and highly recommend all of our staff to work with you or your kids. The efficiency with which both Henry and Kala manage to run this place is unprecedented.
My kids have been taking music lessons for few years now at Grosse Pointe Music Academy. Since then my wife and I have noticed improvements with their musical performance and self confidence. Thanks and Great job!
I attempted to take singing lessons here. Unfortunately, on the day my lesson was scheduled, there was a power outage, so it was postpones. Now obviously this was out of their control, but they told me that they would call to reschedule and never did. We attempted to contact them numerous times about it, and they never got back to us.
The lessons could be the best in the city, but if they’re this difficult to work with…

Went to see the 60s group “Chicago”. It was the first concert at Interlochen since 2019. It was an excellent show and evening.
Great school! Summer camps are lots of fun!
i attended interlochen in 2011 in cabin 13. from staff, my piano teacher and colleagues this was the most positive experience in my entire life and i will never forget it. this place taught me so much life lessons and gave me powerful connections. i still keep up with people who stayed in the same cabin as me! the uniforms and the no-cell phone rule is a bit meh but you get over it litteraly within a day when you realise all the fantastic people around you and when you leave is when you realise how much you have grown and developed not only as an artist, but as a human being. they allow you to use their landphone things anyways whenever you want providing you have the funds. if you are on the fenced, i strongly believe you will not have the same support and sense of community as you would in others. i hope one day i can go back as it was the happiest time of my life. you may feel the counselors are ordering you around and being unfair during inspection, but they are human just like you (i hope) and they are just looking out for you.
I like extra butter…. No arcade though
Nice summer camp! Great concerts! The only thing is I have very limited cellular service on campus. WIFi on campus is also not great.
Far from perfect but a great arts camp overall
This camp is the biggest joke I’ve seen. Our daughter raised her whole fee for camp on her own. She had the worst experience where we contacted Mindy the Visual Art Director about the issues she was having. Mindy avoided all communication with us and did nothing to help with the situations. Our Daughter told her Teachers that she didn’t feel challenged enough and the Teachers said sorry we don’t know how to challenge and maybe she can be in a better class next year. I have contacted President Trey and he has never contacted me. This camp is all about making money, your Alumni Students or returning students. They don’t care about 1st time students which I physically heard today after Mindy finally to decided to call us. So if your rich they love you but if your middle class they don’t care about you. Our Daughter said it was a waste of her money and that she learned more in her College Art Class that she took last school year as a Freshman in High School. This is not a world renowned Fine Arts Camp. It’s a joke and I will find a better one to send our Daughter to than this place. And trust me I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I just don’t want my friend to go live so far away
Racist school that thinks poor students are disposable. Went to school there my freshman and sophomore year. One red-headed individual reported me to the Dean for acknowledging whiteness in a conversation and the history of enslaved peoples on existing racism at the time, and I was penalized after a week of no one explaining why I was in trouble.
