My oldest is enrolled in the Rookies program. We were very excited to discover an age-appropriate program that provides an introduction to a variety of instruments and musical concepts and seems to be a fairly unique offering among the music schools in our area. All of the staff members are very friendly and excellent at sharing their enthusiasm for music with their students.
School of Rock Geneva has been such a gift to our kids. Not only do they get the experience of learning a musical instrument but they also get to experience what it’s like to be supported and encourage by the amazing staff and their peers during performance group. To top it all off they perform live rock concerts to the public. So not only are they getting support and encouragement but also validation of their self expression. This has increased their self confidence and created ease with expressing themselves. The magnitude of positive change I have seen in my kids since starting at SOR is exponential. They have become a part of a community that is a home away from home. They feel safe and they are inspired, doing what they love with people that they love and they are having a blast! We are beyond grateful that SOR has created this amazing program for our kids!
LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this place!!
OVERPRICED & lacking for an inadequate musical education. Staff is inappropriate to teach children. My kid got hurt there due to the sloppiness. Owner & staff didn’t seem to care or take his injuries seriously. They just want you to pay, but don’t know what they’re doing in terms of tending to kids needs or teaching the fundamentals of music. I won’t be trusting my kids alone with them in the future.
Not what you need if you want to have your child to learn the fundamentals of music, learn how to become a better musician, improve on their instrument. No this is not that place. if your child wants to just “jam out” and play whatever along with other students of (somewhat) similar musical level then you’ll find that here.
Inept management and an absentee owner that couldn’t care less about the well being of the students. There inability to effectively communicate and problem solve made it a nightmare to work there. The students are fantastic and the staff is good too. Poor management that needs to be replaced. I would highly suggest looking into private lessons elsewhere.

Everything – the kids, instructors & staff are all great. Just a fun, safe environment for kids to rock.
Absolutely love school of Rock. We tried guitar lessons from other music stores and my son just didn’t stick with it. He loves school of rock. They have a completely different approach. Highly recommend!
Amazing teachers. I even fill in for guitar classes when my son can’t make it. Teacher Sam is awesome. He helps my son with his musical taste and never steers him wrong.
My son will be better than me in no time if he sticks to it.
Great work SoR!
Disappointing. I have two kids there. They decided to switch my kids lesson whither I liked it or not, because her teacher was needed elsewhere. They were having her teacher teach a group class. So they inconvenienced us to make more money whither we liked it or not.
My other child is in group kids class, it doesn’t seem like he’s learning anything. He spent one day drawing a picture of drums and played no music. It’s more like music themed daycare than music lessons. Classes start late every week.
I was using SoR in Elmhurst. They rarely had the same teacher from week to week, at least there each kid got to play their own instruments for the class. My scheduled changed and they don’t have Sat classes. Usually with the franchisee model things are held together a lot better.
It’s too bad because I like the model where kids play together.

Both Kim and Eve were a pleasure to work with during my time taking Adult vocal lessons. Eve made sign-up a breeze, and is just a super friendly and inviting person. She always made me feel welcome, even when I hadn’t yet signed up for the program.
And as a teacher, Kim is incredible. Not only is she a beyond talented vocalist, she knows her stuff. More importantly, she’s able to transfer that knowledge in meaningful ways to her student. I’ve learned so much in the few short lessons I’ve had. As a person, Kim is also just a genuinely super human being. I’m so glad to have been paired with her.
My 6 yo loves coming here. He can’t wait for rookies class! The staff is always professional, helpful, and welcoming. We look forward to coming here for years to come!
My kids love their lessons and Rock 101 classes!!
I am very disappointed with the work of the School of Rock Plainfield, in the 9 days that have passed since the agreement on a trial lesson for my six-year-old daughter, none of the managers of the School of Rock Plainfield checked and noticed that the lesson time was not set correctly, and when we arrived, they simply offered to come to the next week. My child was very upset because all this time, she was looking forward to this lesson, and I had to think carefully and reschedule her other classes for the time of the scheduled lesson. I was upset that the manager did not even consider it necessary to approach us. She spoke to me, standing at the opposite end of the hall. I don’t know how they teach music, but the management is very unprofessional.

My son loves playing guitar at School of Rock Elmhurst! His teaching is first rate, and the experience playing in a band with his peers makes him excited to practice and play each week. It’s amazing to see the caliber of performances they are able to pull together each season. Keep up the great work, SOR!
School of Rock is a great place for kids to learn about musicianship and teamwork – my son loves the collaborative atmosphere. And the concerts are a blast for the performers and their families!
My oldest has been going to School of Rock for 4 years. He started in Rookies and has been in the performance group for 2 years now. It has been such a great place for him. He loves it and there is nothing cooler than seeing your kid up on stage during the performances. My youngest just started Rookies this year and he absolutely loves it. All of the instructors are wonderful and everyone has been so great and careful during this time. They have done a great job making it work for the kids!
LOVE LOVE LOVE it here. My daughter won’t stop talking about it. Great space, everyone is friendly and I love the vibe.
Wish a few teachers had a little more training in controlling kids. Some kids like to take control of the class and a couple teachers are too gentle in calling them. It effects class time for others.
Very unprofessional.

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect with the Barrington School of Rock adult program. I knew that I just wanted to break out of my comfort zone, actually learn some songs that I could play from start to finish, and perform in public. I have been a self-taught musician with a pretty good grasp of fundamental music theory and only beginner-intermediate acoustic guitar skills. Your program in Barrington has exceeded my wildest imagination and it has been 100% the result of your staff. I could not be happier with their enthusiasm, their continual words of encouragement, their knowledge of music, their talent, their teaching abilities, their sense of humor, their playfulness, and their efforts to fill in gaps in the band when we had shortages of adult students. I could not be more impressed with Stephanie, Danny, and Andrew, in particular. Their personalized interest has been outstanding. I have take the most private lessons from Danny. I have learned a remarkable amount from him over the last year. His listening skills are extremely good. He doesn’t just provide a boring lesson. He listens to what I want to learn and where I struggle, then he tailors the lessons to my needs. The follow-up notes he provides are ridiculously good and very helpful. It is not easy to teach music, but both Danny and Andrew can communicate it in a way that makes sense and wants me to keep going. I have learned more songs in the last year than I thought possible and I look forward to what we will do in the next year. It’s also a great opportunity to make new friendships with fellow musicians. I am honored to be part of the SOR Barrington program.
Fantastic place for kids to learn an instrument in a fun environment. The teachers and staff are all excellent and excited to work with kids. They love music but they love kids too. We’ve been to other School of Rock locations and Barrington has been our best experience. I wouldn’t have my son go anywhere else. High quality of lessons, performance experience, and overall atmosphere.
I use to come to Barrington twice a year to visit my daughter, who lives here. As a piano student I need a place to study my lessons with a decent keyboard for practising.
I found all this at the School of Rock of Barrington. And even more: Barbara Lewis, its general manager, is a very caring person, wishing to help you, to make you feel comfortable at the school.
I strongly recommend the place to all the people who wants to learn or practice music (which is, indeed, among the most wonderful things in the world).
Not really impressed with this school. We went for a trial lesson with every intention of signing up for regular classes. The instructor really had nothing to say to me after my son’s class. I had to approach him myself as he was walking away and still he barely said a thing after I inquired about how everything went. Say something man. Anything. The front desk attendant educated me more than the actual teacher. Just left w a bleh feeling. Not signing up.
This school is only for approved white rich people. Horrible experience with the instructors playing favorites. If I could give zero stars I would. All of these five star ratings are from the parents that have been given preferential treatment. Don’t waste your time, and YOUR MONEY if you’re a hardworking middle class family in this school.

I’ve driven past this place a million times. Always wanted to stop in, well I finally did, and can say I wish I did it sooner.
My son took a “boot camp” over this summer, and has now opted to continue with the ongoing format (a weekly individual lesson as well as a weekly group practice). This is a wonderful model: I love the song choices, and I love the staff’s approach to these kids. I was also really happy about the ease of scheduling lessons at a time that works for us, and the general upbeat “no problem” approach to customer service. Best of all, my son is developing a strong interest in playing music that I hope will carry him a long time. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
I have two girls who are both students at School of Rock Oak Park. The older one joined when she realized what a great time her younger sister was having. They’ve both learned so much about music, responsibility and relationships. It’s a great program.
9/10, not enuf jaz

I appreciate how teachers adjust their plan for individuals as well as the fact that students receive both a solo lesson and a group lesson.

We love School of Rock. My son comes out of class every week so excited to tell me what he did in class. The teachers are wonderful!!!
My daughter enjoys class and looks forward to attending. People seem great, and she is learning quite a bit. She already knows more about the fundamentals of music than her parents.
My son loves being in the Rock 101 band and his private lesson teacher for the keyboard. School of Rock does a great job of keeping the kids interested in learning music and being in a band keeps him motivated to practice the songs without me nagging! This is our third season with School of Rock and so far it’s been great.
listened at the show at the library, very good.
They do an excellent job trying to ensure the student experience is a positive and rich one. My daughter loves her instructor.

School of Rock Hinsdale provides young musicians great opportunities to learn and feel good about themselves. The ability to advance from Rock 101 to performance groups really allows the students to also develop their personalities and grow as musicians.
School of Rock has been a fantastic place for my son to learn and grow in his love of music. They did an incredible job transitioning to a virtual teaching model and making it fun for the kids! The staff is incredibly kind, responsive and professional. It’s been an awesome experience for the last three years and look forward to many more!
At the start, they teach you basic songs and don’t really get into notes. Eventully, they do but thats why i can perform songs for my family. Its also makes the process a lot better and faster. They teach you how to not get into bad habits and the whole time, have fun. if someone does not want to go, they should at least try it because there is no way on earth you can’t like this place. I’m younger than 10 and know this is the place for someone edging in to learning an instrument. The staff are always kind, and let you pick the one thats right for you. ANY ONE OUT THERE

Awesome place to learn and better yourself as a musician! Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and great at inspiring the students to learn music! The School of Rock method is streamlined through professional means to keep that consistency with the successful franchise. The location is very clean, easy to navigate, decor is elevated all around and COVID-19 precautions were in place when it was needed most, still optionable I believe at request. Learning music can inspire confidence for somebody of any age, it’s invaluable and although it could be very tough to learn instruments it can be very fufilling, very good for the brain as well! I myself have taken lessons in the past from private teachers all the way through college level classes and having the system in place is highly effective, curtailed to modern technology like apps. Pricing is reasonable, the skills for life are worth unpinching any penny. What would I change? Perhaps building a small stage to lift drums off floor in band rooms, T.V in the back lobby, more soundproofing including foam, diffusion and although this is more of a franchise suggestion, adding music studio/production/recording elements to the mix! Also, more raises for the drum teachers!! Great location!

Over the 3 years I’ve been here, School of Rock has become my home away from home. The relationships I have formed with the staff and fellow musicians have shaped who I am as a person. My guitar playing has Improved greatly not only because of lessons but also the performance programs offered. I am currently taking 3 lessons per week, participating in two bands offered by the school and interning. It is easy to say that School of Rock has changed not only my life, but almost everyone who goes here. Do yourself or your kids a favor and sign them up for School of Rock. -Sam Frederickson, 18
Love this place!!
ROCK and ROLL
The instructors seem competent and my son enjoys the lessons. I just wish it was easier communicating with the staff. Due to the late-ish hours the business runs, getting an actual person on the phone is potluck. Email sometimes gets an answer within a couple of hours, other times it seems that days go by before someone responds. Their overall attitude is laid-back, which is fine, I suppose, and in keeping with the SOR “way”. I just think they could be a bit more professional and efficient insofar as the customer service is concerned.
If you are thinking about taking lessons or signing your child up for lessons, you should seriously reconsider this location. Find a corporate location that has the proper resources. This place is overall NOT functional and failing.

The staff are incredible: knowledgable and very helpful. My son has loved learning the guitar here. The whole place has an awesome chill vibe too!
I like School of Rock because it offers a fun musical environment with many different programs for all age groups and many different instruments. There are programs for your children to learn playing music with other children. There are also adult lesson for any different skill level. There is even programs that allow you to join a band and play and collaborate with other musicians. There are many locations so it is likely you should be able to find one near you. The staff is extremely friendly and makes you feel welcome.
Great place to learn an instrument! And fun shows to play in.
