Great music program for kids and adults. Makes learning an instrument fun for my kids and lets them learn the instruments they are interested in.
My son has been here almost every season for the last 6 years. He doesn’t have any aspirations for a career in music, but he always has fun so we keep coming back for more. As a parent, it’s great fun to see my child and other children enjoy the “classics”. He really likes his instructor. Overall, it has proven to be a good value for the price. My only complaint is that I wish there was a Darien location. It’s a bit far for us to go 2x a week.
My boys have grown and thrived at School of Rock. What began as an additional activity for our younger son to explore his interest in percussion as become a mainstay with both of our sons. We are on our combined 7th showcase heading into our eighth.One music director in particular, Tyler Bernhardt, has had such an impact on our oldest son that he composed his essay application as a camp counselor based on Tyler’s character and his impact on him as a youth advisor. There were no fewer than 20 individuals in a leadership role that he could have used as an example but he chose Tyler. The impact of positive role models on young people imperative. School of Rock in New Canaan is an exceptional place to engage your child in music.
There’s a lot of kids in these programs… some work harder than others and it’s clear they have their favorites. If you’re not one of them, it will just be an average experience, so don’t be fooled by the high ratings. Unless you really push for it, don’t expect much.

School of Rock may have just opened but my two kids can’t stop talking about coming back every week. Friendly staff and a great program using all of your typical “rock band” instruments. I think we have a drummer and pianist in the family.
Highly recommended!! My daughter joined School of Rock in East Hartford and we have loved it!! Kyle could not be more helpful, Antonio is informative and engaging and she’s already learned so much and improved technique! It’s more than a school it a community of like minded children and adults all who have a common passion! Don’t hesitate!
I’m really loving the experience of learning to play with others in a performance method. After too many years of practicing all by myself, I’m developing the skill to play with others. I’m in my 50’s, so this isn’t just for kids, the adult band practice is great. If only I had access to this type of training and exposure to like minded people as a kid!

Another parent highly recommended the School of Rock for my musical 15-year-old. We have only been at the School of Rock West Hartford for 1 season, and it has been an amazing experience – we are looking forward to the concert for each band to showcase all their hard work and talent! My son is not a die-hard sports kid (although he has been on several teams at school); he really loves music, plays piano and sax.
Being in a band takes the band members to a new level in their musical development/performance…it provides experience working in a “team” environment, offers opportunities for introverted kids to step outside their comfort zone with peers who possess similar interests and form new friendships, and helps band members gain confidence and self-esteem.
The School of Rock West Hartford is conveniently located a few minutes off I-84 next to Blue Back Square and has free parking at the facility.
Upon entering School of Rock, you can hear the band practicing, the energy of the staff is very positive, and the band members sound like they are having a great time together in the student waiting room. My son loves the passion and encouragement of all his instructors, who make the private lesson as well as the band practice a fun, engaging, educational and enriching experience every time. The band members encourage each other also. Through the instructors own musical training as well as the School of Rock performance methodology, they quickly learn their band member/students’ strengths and areas for opportunity and make them feel like they are an important part of the band. I love how the instructors make each band member feel like a real rock star.

Amazing team of teachers and owners! They have a unique approach – learn music as a group to understand working together as a group – or a band (with eventual option for private lesson add ons). He always comes out of class happy and feeling supported by the teachers. My son had to pivot because of attention issues. Rather than chastise him and set him up for failure, the staff at School of Rock approached it with positivity and kindness. He is now in private lessons and enjoying it. Thank you School of Rock!
100% recommend. This is way beyond just learning the chords or the notes – The instructors are so passionate about ensuring the students have a fun, enriching experience, that my son comes home excited, confident, and inspired from every lesson and band rehearsal. They take great pains to get to know the kids and their strengths and opportunities, you really feel like you’re part of the band.

Love,love,love this studio. Esteban is such a great musician and engineer. I’ve been afraid to start my music career for so many reasons. Some reasons being that the music won’t turn out great… or just fear of not performing up to my abilities.. Esteban provided an environment that was welcoming and encouraging. He pushed and was kind all at the same time. He understood my vision and added value to it. I would recommend the studio to all artists and creatives.
Can’t say enough about Esteban and Judah’s camp. Esteban did the videography for my wedding and my wife loves it. I kept hearing happy wife happy life and since this was the only part of the wedding I got to choose someone for my neck was on the line lol. But Esteban made me look great both with my wife and the way he spruced up the video I don’t remember being that handsome. In all seriousness he was a true professional and kept editing the video till it was just perfect. This will be a memory thanks to Judah’s camp that we will have to share with our kids and grandkids one day. Thanks Esteban and God bless
Judahs Music School has been amazing! My son began in November and the progress he has made in such a short time has been truly remarkable. The instructors expertise and guidance have played a significant role in nurturing his passion for music. Thank you for providing a supportive and inspiring environment that encourages his musical growth. My Missy started at NHAOPA in late 2015 on a whim and never looked back. She’s learned and grown so much all while having fun and building lasting, meaningful relationships. Through this pandemic, Billy, Neil and the teachers at NHAOPA have managed to navigate ever changing rules and regulations to keep the kids safe and allow them to do what they love. They’ve allowed for some normalcy for my daughter. She’s been able to continue classes, vocal lessons and summer intensive (both virtually and in person). Most importantly, they’ve allowed her the opportunity to be with her friends in a safe space. I’ve always said that my daughter not only found her passion at NHAOPA, she found her people.
My son, has been going to New Haven Academy of Performing Arts (NHAOPA), for years n there is no other place I could EVER imagine sending him!! The teachers are absolutely whole-hearted, genuine n go above and beyond for the children! We started with summer camp n it has grown into more! Singing, acting n the very BEST part, is my son (n so many other children) feel that NHAOPA, TRULY is home away from home!! I have NEVER felt so unbelievably grateful that not only is my son learning so much but, he has gained so many friends!! I have NHAOPA to thank for that because they teach the children to support each other, build each other up, help each other, enjoy n have a blast working together!! Everything about this academy is absolutely wonderful n I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in singing, acting, learning to play an instrument, amazing summer plays, cabarets n becoming part of the wonderful “NHAOPA” family !!
E (2017) and A (2018) have grown so much in this program. They are now singing, acting, playing the piano, and dancing. Their movements are elegant. Their confidence in all activities has increased in ways I could never imagine. I love to see the excitement in their faces when it is time to go to class. The teachers hold them accountable for the skillsets they are learning as well as how they are doing in school academically. They enjoy their life long friends as well. What a wonderful place for my children to grow, learn, and become role models and leaders. I appreciate the safety precautions that are in place to keep this small business open during Covid. My children needed this home away from home and we are thankful. ❤️❤️❤️
All the summer shows were fabulous. New Haven Academy of Performing Arts (NHAOPA) is a home away from home. My daughter truly love all aspects of the program. I am amazed at how my children have grown and how the confidence has grown in every student. The teachers and students are so supportive of each other. NHAOPA is truly a part of our family!!
